150 watchers: 004-006 Charmander line
I’m doing the 150 pokémon for my first 150 FA watchers
Beaglederp
Beaglederp was the first watcher I was sure I knew from somewhere else, but the fact that it continued the reverse-alphabetical order only served to cement in my mind that the watch list was preserving the order people were watching in.
Beagle, as he’s known for short, is all about that coffee, so I don’t doubt this is what he’d have a Charmander for
Only thing that worries me about this drawing is the size. It was a little hard to get Charmander’s head right and once I had it I didn’t want to redraw it bigger.
Muddypaws
Muddypaws should’ve been my first indication that the watchlist wasn’t in order, but I thought they had just hit the watch button so close to each other (They were almost exactly 12 hours apart), the system had gotten confused, or there was a one-time error, or the ordering was done at the end of the month. Besides, they were in the correct order in the “recent watchers” list on my profile!
Whereas Beagle is very much an indoors person, Muddy is very much an outdoors person. I can imagine him using a Charmeleon to light campfires, burn rope ends, and in general light the way. I think he may be the most likely to adopt the “trainer” lifestyle of camping and going from city to city.
This was hard! Charmeleon has this weird alligator-like “beak”, I am not good at drawing bears, and this is a pose I’ve never done before! Oh well, at least my practice drawing shoes came in handy.
startide
Startide pretty much followed because I asked him to (I'm sure this piece had nothing to do with it!), so there was no doubt where he came from.
I’m hoping to do a lot of Mystery Dungeon -themed pictures with the “must have an anthropomorphic element” rule, and I took this chance to do the first one. Of course, a Charizard in a Mystery Dungeon world has to have been exploring Mystery Dungeons for years… but never seen a Mystery Dungeon like this!
I wanted to do an inversion of my previous picture of Startide, but, like with Charizard, I had a hard time getting the head right, and once I landed on the right shape, didn’t want to redraw it smaller. I think it looks better for it.
Harder than the head, though, was the neck. I actually cursed out loud as I drew it, something I don’t do unless I lose the file or something. The legs were also hard, but I think I got there in the end.
As with the twitter sketches, if you want yours colored, or if you want me to edit you in to somebody else's, I'll happily do it for $5 (not counting shading)
