I tested this a pic on the free drawing software, FireAlpaca. ^^
I think the brush line algorithm is very nice and smooth than photoshop. But unfortunately when there are many layers and hiding, displaying layers is a bit lag, but it depends on the computer.

Firealpaca is really nice and it's animation tools are supposed to be really robust. Why not check out it's brother program MediBang Paint Pro? It's the same base program but with tools and optimization for comic and manga creation rather than animation. Could help with the performance issues.
