A spring-child, Frederika was born in a town of Birkfeld into a scholar’s family. Her family ties could have promised her an easy future, but alas her father’s thirst for power unmade that.
After many painful months she was turned into an Ashen, a gray-clad person, like they were covered in ash, with resistance to diseases and resilience to wearing effects of magic. Elated by the successful experiment, her father took up the slow process of transmutation, but fell victim to a mistake in his calculations, dying of heavy metal poisoning of his own making.
Her widow mother took care of little Rika, but her appearance told what had been done unto her. Left outcast by people around her, she grew up with few friends. Years passed, after saying the last goodbyes to her dying mother, she left her hometown of Birkfeld, doing odd jobs as a hired blade and collecting bounties on monsters and criminals plaguing the villages and towns.
