Mio sighed as she changed into her pajamas for the night. She and Yuuko had visited Mai’s house earlier that day and it just so happened that her dogs were out at the same time they arrived. Since their last encounter, the two were still a bit wary after their unfortunate bits from the dogs. But still wanting to give them another chance, they decided to switch which dogs they would be encountering this time, in hopes that they could possibly get a more friendly reaction from the two.
Unfortunately for them, they both received another bite, only this time, they experienced the other’s slightly different pain. After another round of writhing in pain from the bites, the two girls conceded in defeat that the dogs were just beyond their understanding.
Mio was looking out her window, pondering if they would ever get along with the dog when a shooting star flew across the sky. She was just about to make a wish when she realized she didn’t really know what to wish for. Thinking upon her thoughts just then, she decided to go with the most recent idea in her mind.
“I wish we could really understand how Oguri-san and Pyon-san thinks!”
Mio was just able to say this before the star disappeared over the other side of the horizon. Realizing what she wished for, she couldn’t help but sigh again at the perceived waste of a wish, then giggling at the silver lining that it would still be a beneficial wish one way or another.
With that, Mio slipped under her blanket, shuffling herself comfortably into her bed with a smile, ready for a new school day tomorrow.
As the morning broke, the sound of people walk about to work caused Mio to sit up quickly in bed. She quickly looked at her alarm clock, realizing the batteries had died on her once again. Thankfully, the noise of the early morning caused her to wake up earlier than usual.
The panic itself caused her breathing to deepen before the relaxing when she realized she was not only on time, but a bit early! This allowed her to let her tongue hang out casually as just the act of waking up already jumpstarted her energy for the day, nearly causing her to drop the clock from her white furred paws.
After changing into her school uniform, being careful with her tail when she pulled her skirt on as it wagged comfortably as she always did, she went downstairs to the kitchen where her sister had just put out a big bowl of kibbles for them.
“Oh! Thanks Yoshino!” Mio said before popping a pawful into her mouth. Her face suddenly grimaced after the first bite while her sister did her best not to laugh as her tongue stuck out from her lips. Mio quickly spat it out as her tail curled in between her legs in disgust while Yoshino’s was furiously wagging in amusement.
“Yoshino! Did you replace it with people food again?!” Mio yelled, causing her sister to let out a giggling bark.
“How’s it taste?” she asked as though it were no big deal, causing Mio to poke a furry finger against the identical white stripe of fur going down her face.
“Bad! You know we don’t eat people food! Only Mai gets to eat that!” she exclaimed. When she only got another giggle as a response, Mio’s floppy ears hiked up in frustration before storming out of the house.
Fortunately for Mio, her bad mood wouldn’t last long as her doggy nose twitched, picking up a familiar scent just around the corner. Sure enough, just around the corner was Yuuko who let out a happy bark at the sight of her friend.
“Morning Mio!” she said happily as the two playfully booped their wiggling noses together, causing their tails to wag playfully; Yuuko’s thin white tail contrasting nicely with Mio’s fluffy brown tail. Soon, the two were walking side by side with their tongues hanging out as usual.
From the morning food debacle, things were much normal as they walked to school, meeting the likes of one of the neighborhood ladies taking a nice walk with her leashed companion, their fluffy matching tails waving peacefully in sync with every step, and even Buddy and Co-Buddy who Yuuko couldn’t help but blush a bit at the older dog before Kiyoshi desperately chased after them, not wanting to be left out of the pack with his ears pulled back in panic.
“Mio, Yuuko,”
Their floppy ears perked up at the quiet voice addressing them before turning around quickly to face the owner of said voice directly. Of course, they knew immediately that they were in the presence of their beloved Mai. Their tails were already excitedly wagging up and down at the sound of her voice, but when they finally made eye contact with the human girl’s relaxed eyes, their self-control was quickly lost.
They began bobbing up and down with deep pants as their tongues stuck out in excitement, the energy only building up when they bounded over to her and eagerly planted themselves right in front of her expectantly, just like Gopuri Cap and Pyon would do.
“Mai! Good morning, Mai!” Mio said joyfully, barely able to keep her composure.
“Mai! Mai! Morning!” Yuuko said, unable to try and contain her happiness as her legs were practically causing her to jog and jump in place.
Mai simply smiled a small smile at their excitement and pet both of their heads, causing them to close their eyes and melt at the touch of their beloved friend. “Good morning,” she then reached into her and pulled out a flying disc. “Present?”
Mio and Yuuko perked up with shocked faces before both of them began jumping in place with excitement. “Present! Present! Present!” With that, Mai threw the disc behind them, causing them to quickly rush ahead in the direction of where she threw it.
But like her dogs, that’s what they thought happened. As they continued the chase towards school, Mai followed casually from behind, hiding the dog toy behind her back as she did so.
Truly, Mio’s wish came true as she and Yuuko knew exactly how Oguri Cap and Pyon thought, as well as everyone else, too.
As for Mai, she was just happy to have friends who were just as playful as her dogs, none the wiser as everyone else.
