Right now it feels like the Tree of Life has the world in stagnation, maybe its time for the circle to be completed so this incarnation of the world can be destroyed so out from the ashes a new world can rise up. At some point we will get the major lore bomb dropped on us, that will explain a lot more (hopefully).
I understand your disappointment. The Tree of Life is a maternal figure that heals the sick and provides for her people but she can't protect them from evil, that's what guardians are for. Therefore in the face of crisis she looks incompetent at best and malevolent at worst.
Well this answers my question, it's not the old guy but his grandson. They looked so much alike I was uncertain until now. Of course this explains how he fell to chaos so easily, if it's a family obligation much like with the angry kid his devotion might have been built on a less than stellar foundation.
I called it, I had a feeling that Jackalope was related to Lynus in some way. It was still a guess but I'm happy I assumed correctly.

Luna may not be incompetent as some say, but I think she tries too hard to maintain order in the world, and the result is the proliferation of Chaos in the way it happens in the story, without knowing that this breaks the balance of things in the world, as well as in the universe; at least that's what I think is happening, which makes a lot of sense when one think about it.
