Pardon my intrusion, and I know you're just stating an opinion, but this is not a very encouraging thing to say to an artist!
I don't think saying that will make the artist change back, it will just make them feel bad. If you want be constructive, maybe you could note the reasons why you preferred the last style, and why this one isn't as good (to you!) That way, at least they will be able to weigh the reasons you feel this way with the reasons they changed their style in the first place.
Be supportive! They must have changed for a good reason. :>

I think a lot of times people forget that most artists pour their heart into their works. No matter how popular or skilled the artist is, they're not a machine, and shouldn't be treated like one. Though that's not to say critique isn't a good thing! But it has to be constructive to be critique, of course. ;>
