Another updated reference for the MttF crew, Zeke! The resident goofball and entertainer of the group. Zander and Zeke are technically twins (though Zander is slightly older in terms of his hatch time) so they’re usually up to hijinks together more often than not. Though these characters and their posing are already hard to balance with six limbs and wings as it is, I deliberately made Zeke’s main pose more complicated to show off his multitasking skills with his various props.
In my last drawing of him I had changed his main colour to dark green, but decided to go back to his original dark blue here. While both colour schemes worked just fine, I felt that the blue and purple combo suited him better and adds to his overall quirkiness. Though perhaps not especially useful for the reference itself, once I came up with the idea for the crazy pose, I knew I had to try it! His posing will be fun to explore later on, as he definitely puts his “feet hands” to good use for grabbing and climbing things.
As soon as I found out that his name can mean “star” in some translations, I immediately wanted to include that as a motif this time around (shocker, I know xD). That said though, I wanted to be at least a LITTLE more subtle with it, so I kept it mostly to just his wings and prop items. Despite the characters for Moth to the Flame being colourful anthropomorphic bugs, their designs are not what I would call “fantastical”, at least in comparison to my work for Starglass Zodiac or Feather Knights, so I wanted to keep to that idea to ensure he still matches Zander and the others. The stars also add to his “amateur magician” angle with his sleight of hand and diversion skills. The motif adds just that little bit of extra variation to the Z-Squadron’s wing designs that I wanted to include this time around, and I really like it!
