My second monthly drawing. This is from my first NaNoWriMo story. Not even really the climax or anywhere close but more or less the first time the protagonist fully showed off their true power. But I figure a lot of the monthly drawings should be really me trying to push my skills to the limit, so very complex and dynamic poses that require a lot of work. And this drawing is one I felt that really fit the bill for not only being complicated, but within my skill range.
I will admit I kind of cheated sort of on the drawing set up. Basically I spent about 2 hours on Blender creating a rather low-poly model of what I wanted the drawing to look like and went from there. And then there were the other issues to kind of hash out and balance out. Because the character cannot control their power they're constantly covered in a black flame but the attack was so powerful that even the flames were being pushed away by the attack. And then how to show an attack being charged up that's barely being contained, show that their entire body is covered in runes. And then because I felt I needed to spend more time on it, make an actual attempt at drawing grass rather than just rendering a filter. Could have also added in some trees in the background but decided the drawing was chaotic enough.
Overall I'm quite pleased with how it turned out. There are probably things where I could have done better but I still like it. Like my only real complaint is that i should have spent more time blending the grass out and maybe a bit more obvious shading on the fur, but I don't know how much that'd even be noticed considering the flames. Anyway, 2 Hours on Blender, 3 hours for the sketch and linework and then spent 11 hours on the colors and background for a 16 hour total project

It was my first NaNoWriMo story way back in 2010, which I apparently only ever uploaded on DeviantArt: Part 1. Don't really think it worth uploading to here because the quality is so poor compared to what I can do now. Not only was it almost 12 years ago, but it was a NaNo story, thus quality didn't really matter. I did get the 50k words, just never finished it. I am half tempted to try and rewrite it if I can get back into the habit of writing daily or turn it into a comic if I can get my work load sorted. In either case it's kind of just a back burner project right now.
