Zaedrin Sydnami/Lord Ferro
War painted every part of his life. A memetic parasite that gave back the life it stole only when there were lives to be stolen. A priest could show him a church’s steeple gleaming in the sun and he would see only the gleaming of a sniper’s scope. A child could show him a playground and he would only see a place to duck and weave from enemy fire.
His dream wife could give his dream home a lush, meticulously pruned garden and he would see only a miniature battlefield with flower soldiers, hedge commanders and tree generals. He remembered that ancient axiom from Old Earth: that only the dead have seen the end of war. He envied them. And wondered what dreams they shared.
