Darkness fell across the Kirin encampment. All grew still and quiet as lights went out in each of the domiciles. The small group of explorers bedded down as well. Thankful for the hospitality of their Kirin hostess and her guestroom. Sleeping in an actual bedroom was still preferable to the best field roll one could purchase.
Wind Seeker still could not find complete rest. She did not consider herself above the other members of her group, but pegasi were still not completely at home on the ground. She had a cloud tether, and could have made herself a nice spot above the community with a low hanging cloud, but that felt rude given the hospitality her hosts had shown them. It took a little moving, but she finally got comfortable enough to begin to nod off.
Movement outside the window set her on full alert. Quietly she rolled out of bed and peeked out of the window. A lone kirin made his way to the path to the deep forest.
"Where are you going at this hour?" she whispered to herself. Silently she launched herself out the window and soared up into the silvery light of the moon.
Quietly she followed him from above, the full moon made tracking him easy until the canopy became too dense to peer through. She circled overhead from where she caught a last glimpse. "A path! He had to have gone that way!" She glided down and lit on the trail. Stepping softly, she followed the lead. Soon she saw a brightness in the trees up ahead. Moonlight shone in a large clearing. Quietly, she approached. Suddenly the silence of the night was broken.
A baritone voice rang out through the wood, echoing off the large trees as if in a cathedral. She did not recognize the melody, nor the language it was sung in. Her ears swiveled forward to catch every note. Still in shadow, she crept to the edge of the clearing. There she saw him in the center of the clearing, singing to the full moon, a haunting sad song.
Still playing with my Kirin.
