Well, Zaru and I will be taking home baby boy ratties for New Years, so I've been lurking rat forums and stuff for the past few months.
made a "grotto" style bookcase cage, and after doing some research on other modified bookcase cages I decided to make one of my own.
Hopefully this isn't against the AUP since it's something I made :)
So, yeah, 3'x3' bookshelf, everything was coated top to bottom in waterproof nontoxic enamel. The door is kinda crooked because I am not a carpenter XD The hardware cloth was the worst part, it ruined my fingers. I also sewed their hammocks and I'm working on a bunch more.
Now all that's left... rats!

I really want to make something like this for my rats when i'm out of school and into a more permanent home! Lucky little rats you have!
You've done some good work though!
I have some boys and girls and the girls are in a tank setup with a metal mesh type top. Pleanty of air and pleanty of room for them but I have to lift the lid a bit to do anything and when I do they're always sticking their noses out. I'm always thinking ''Please don't jump out..'' because the girls have been known to escape cages...really easily. I've chased them down enough for one life XD
I miss my rats... I had to leave them with a friend when I moved.
I'm going to bookmark this for reference if you don't mind-- I've been really debating getting a rat or two within this upcoming year and this looks like a really nice housing plan!
