Light Armor moves forward with the heavier equipment to break enemy lines, bust bunkers and move through fortified urban locations.
Light Armor will often carry short range 30mm single-crew rifles or an automatic HE launcher. They will also carry extra magazines in the event a comrade needs ammo or they aquire a rifle from a fallen comrade.
The suit is capable of protecting against small arms fire and still allow mobility. The material may not be able to breathe but is waterproof and fireproof. The 1/4in steel plates can protect the user against blunt force trauma and small arms fire.
While Mankind's military designed their MOPP gear not to fight in a contaminated arena but to only move through it safely (yeh right), the LA's Environmental Headgear allows the soldier to breathe, drink, communicate and, in worst situations, is equipped with a reserve air supply tank. 30 minutes is long enough for extraction.
If a skirmish lasts longer than 30 minutes, or all LAs are lost, then Heavy Armor and tank support will be required.

(tsk tsk) If only the avergae civilian knew how ineffectual our gas masks were... Don't get me wrong, I'm sure the Army's equipment was top notch but ours was more of a false sense of security. Leaking seals, leaking eye pieces, filters well over 5 years old, failed drinking tubes... and what the Hell is a plastic hood supposed to protect us from in a Sarin gas attack???

Predatory species excel as FastMovers or LongRangers but in order to qualify, an FM or LR can't be saddled down with heavy 1/4in or brutal 4in steel armor. They'll have two weeks worth of supplies to carry and thats it for a platoon.
LAs and HAs can't, by nature, last that long, and must complete their mission in 30 minutes or less. The animals chosen for this duty are single-minded, job-oriented and care about nothing but completing the mission. It has been documented that an unarmored LA can take a 7.62x59mm to the lung and still run 300 yards in order to kill at least one opponent...

If I had the money, I'd pay for an agent to pitch my manuscripts.
If I could get someone to listen I'd pitch this as a FPS where you could play as either human or animal.
If I had nothing else on my plate I'd have already been in school for either game desgin or motion pictures...
