A short story written by the talented Lyrissa.
One guy dreamed of getting into a famous dog sled racing team and he was given such an opportunity. However, everything turned out to be completely different from what he had expected.
”I can’t believe it. I can’t believe I’m actually joining the Arctic Comets!”
William stared into his pad at the beautiful figure streaking across the snow with her sled careening like a rocket. He drew a deep sigh as her golden hair flashed past the camera and he caught just a glimpse of her beautiful smile before the dogs pulled her away. Snow whipped behind the three-time world champion as she crossed the finish line and left her competitors far behind, struggling for the silver medal. William reluctantly closed the video and gathered his belongings as the train pulled into the station. As he got up he once more wondered if everything since his acceptance letter had been a dream.
“No, it’s real. I worked so hard for this. It’s real,” he said to himself as he pulled on his coat and left his compartment, moving through the narrow corridor to step out into the bright sun.
“William Harding?” a tall, powerfully built man said just as William finished gathering his luggage. “Hi, I’m Karl, I’m here to take you to the headquarters.”
“Hey there,” William said, nodding to the man. “Sounds great, when will I get to meet Tatiana?”
He mentally kicked himself just as the words left his lips as he realized he sounded like a fawning fanboy. To his relief and confusion Karl simply started laughing, patting him on the shoulder.
“I knew you’d ask that. You’ll see Tatiana soon enough. Now come along!”
As the man led him off to the parking lot, William felt like he was dancing across soft clouds.

“His paperwork is all in order?” the middle-aged woman said as she raised an eyebrow behind her rimmed glasses.
“Everything checks out,” Karl said with the same easygoing tone he seemed to always sport.
“Then welcome aboard the Arctic Comets, kid!” the woman said as she stood up. “Your winnings are quite impressive and we’re really happy to have you on the team. I’m Angelina, I’m-“
“Tatiana’s teacher!” William blurted. “You taught her everything!”
William heard a couple of mumbles from the various members of the Comets standing behind him. She cast a quick glance over his shoulder and saw a pretty curly-haired woman whisper something to a lean swarthy man who nodded with a mysterious grin on his lips. Next to them a pair of men only a few years older than him stood deep in conversation, the pale face and blonde hair of one contrasting against the dark skin and curly hair of the other. William felt extremely awkward about how amusing they found his fanboy outbursts.
“Tatiana’s... teacher. Yes in a way. I suppose now that you’re one of us it’s time you learn,” Angelina said, straightening the tight grey bun holding her hair together and standing up.
“Learn what? Where is Tatiana?” William asked as the older woman led him along through the club headquarters to a room with a large door bearing a series of locks.
The team leader didn’t respond and William felt the stares of Karl and the other members at his neck as Angelina began unlocking the door. He found it strange that the world champion was nowhere to be seen in the headquarters but he had assumed that maybe she was busy doing promotional work or one of her countless podcast and stream appearances that had made her even more of a public darling. But now he felt unnerved as the door to the room swung open since it looked more like a bank vault than somebody’s living quarters. Suddenly William felt like he had stumbled into the lair of a dangerous cult and was about to be shown where they performed human sacrifice.
“Don’t be shy. Tatiana is waiting,” Angelina said as she stepped aside and ushered William into the room.
William stepped past her and into the chamber which seemed more like a changing room than anything else. Along both walls were lockers with benches in front of them and straight ahead was a tall wardrobe. Its doors were open and inside William could see the pale outline of...
“Tatiana! What is this?” he shouted, spinning around to confront the club members.
Angelina had a matronly smile on her face as she patted his shoulder and stepped past him. “Relax, it’s not real.”
She walked over to the wardrobe and picked out the flaccid form of Tatiana, her golden shoulder-length hair, fine facial features and generous breasts perfectly replicated. While William felt his cheeks burning, Angelina gestured to the furry skins that hung behind her in the closet.
“This is the secret to our success,” she said. “The entire knowledge and experience of the whole club concentrated into one team.”
“W-what the hell... where’s the real Tatiana?” William mumbled as he felt his head spinning at the bizarre revelation.
“There is no ‘real’ Tatiana,” Angelina said with a scoff. “We designed her by committe as the face and body that would get us the most attention by the media, and it worked. I was the only one to wear her at first while the others wore the dogs, but nowadays we constantly change it up. And as our newest member it’s only fair that you be the one to wear her for the next race.”
“M-me? W-wear...” William stammered.
He stepped forward to run a hand along the Tatiana skin’s silken hair and stare into her empty face with its slender nose, plump lips and large, empty eye holes. He looked up to the closet and saw the beautifully replicated husky suits hanging there, each with a distinctive pattern and color to their fur. There was a big powerful one with brown fur, a female with steely grey fur, another female with slightly curly pale brown fur and so on and suddenly William looked back at the Arctic Comet club members who all beamed back at him.
“Come on man, you’re part of the team now,” Karl said with a grin.
“Lead us to victory,” Angelina said with a wink and thrust the Tatiana skin into his hands.

“And coming in for her fifth consecutive victory... representing the Arctic Comets... it’s Tatiana!”
As the speaker blared ‘Tatiana’ smiled and waved at her audience. Her hands trembled after the tense race but as she stepped out of her sled she saw her faithful dogs each wink at her, with the lead grey-furred female offering a friendly bark in addition. As the press rushed towards her, ‘Tatiana’ suddenly realized that in a strange way, her dream had now been fulfilled and she happily walked over to meet them.
