As noted here, Ayame is Kira's mother, and wanted her to follow in the family tradition of being ballerinas. Kira, however, wished to study law, and the two had a bitter falling out and didn't speak to each other for years. Eventually, though, the winds of coincidence would lead Thray to bring Ayame to the Garden; Kira's daughter, Nezuko learned from Kira that she had a grandmother. She didn't forbid her from visiting her and helping her around her house, however, and it was during one of these outings that Thray tagged along.

Speaking with Ayame, Thray learned that she didn't disapprove of Kira's choice in career. She was simply afraid of what it might cost her to succeed; her own father had been a lawyer, and her parents' marriage disintegrated when it came to light that he was taking bribes and letting criminals walk free. She feared history would repeat and ended up turning into her own mother to try and convince Kira to think about her future.

Thray convinced Ayame to come to the Garden, more specifically the Temple, where Basit helped mother and daughter speak for the first time in years (in his own way, if you catch my drift) and clear the air between them both, putting them on the path to reconciling.

Along the way, in fact when they first met, Thray and Ayame became lovers. Unsurprisingly, this sex didn't stop once she came to the Garden and, her libido reignited, Ayame took a liking to Thray's breeding suggestion. This was also where Basit came in, the chimera "training" her back into tip top "shape."
