I finished Fender! Now I just have to make a thing to hang him. And take a somewhat better picture.
And figure out what I'm doing with him in the long run.
16 gague 1/4" ID anodized aluminum rings, European 4-in-1 weave.

It only weighs a couple of pounds. Aluminum is really light.
And it took months, actually. Not constant work, but still. Going from the number of rings it has and the speed at which I was working by the time I had gotten used to it, I think it took on the order of 30 hours of work.

NEEDS MORE RECOGNITION! :0
Seriously mind blowing! I saw the thumbnail and wondered exactly WHAT Fender was made of. I thought it was going to be one of those images where Fender is made of lots of tiny pictures of well, ...Fender. But I was very pleasantly surprised to find out it was indeed something very different and a thousand times more AWESOME!
Great job!

Oh, here's an idea..... Could you make one of these, but make it so it fits over a doorway and strands of it just dangle down? I'm not sure what those are called, but it's not fully linked together. Just like strands of 3 rings per strand just dangle down, block direct view past the door, makes up the picture its supposed to depict, but you can still pass through it......
I hadn't thought of doing something like that. I know what you're referring to, like those bead curtains. I'm not positive about whether it would work out super great with this sort of weave, but it would be interesting to try maybe with a weave that made a nicer round chain.
Byzantine is a particular type of weave. It can be made with different sizes of rings; the size I typically use is 16 gauge 1/4" inner diameter. Here's what it looks like: www.furaffinity.net/view/6070246/
The chain is about 3/8" wide, and I'd probably hang 1 chain every half inch to get good coverage. When making a large quantity I think it might come to around $20 per foot of chain, but I'd have to do a test to figure out more precisely what the price would be.
There might be a couple other weaves that would work which might be less expensive, but I might have to get a stock of the sizes of rings for them.
