A character you've seen in the background of my Opposite Poles AU comics - Elco The Hedgehog.
At first glance he seems like a perfectly adequate relatable character... and then he starts talking. He talks so much and so quickly, about everything and nothing at the same time, that an unprepared listener will lose their grip on reality.
You would think: "Okay, a talker, no big deal!". But no, we're not just talking about having a few screws loose. While having gone out for bread for breakfast, he will be drawn into local squabbles and shootouts on the way, by dinner will be friends with the mafia, and by the evening he will be dancing at a closed party with a purchased loaf, which by that time will acquire a name and pedigree. And when the hedgehog eventually returns home, it will be announced to the relatives that Gregory The Loaf's family must be freed from the bakery across the road, because there, on the shelves, are his loaf wife and little loaflings waiting for him.
And if you don’t understand what just happened, imagine what it's like for Elco's wife or his occasional colleagues. But kids love him. Mostly.
Elco is a representative of the Southern Alliance… Even if "representative" is too strong a word. He is present there. Sometimes. When he successfully reaches the Alliance from home, without getting involved in anything along the way. And while he is there - some might think that Elco performs completely mediocre and simple tasks like some errand boy. As a rule, he's not trusted with anything more serious than shuffling paper.
Does this upset him? No. He perceives all these boring jobs with incredible optimism, along the way managing to joke and laugh, and show a couple of card tricks, and give compliments and generally put those around him in a good mood. For all his balabolism and stupidity, the hedgehog maintains friendly relations with most people around him. There is an opinion that the Southern Alliance team atmosphere is strikingly different from all the others precisely due to Elco being there.
So what is he doing in a serious military organization like the Alliance? Short answer is - the leader of the Southern Alliance, Caspian, having considered his qualities, from time to time uses the hedgehog as an unofficial "diplomat". Very highly specialized, and, importantly, cheap, solver or specific problems. In fact, the Egg Boss just tells him something like: "Go there, meet someone, make sure they have a good time and sign these papers" and that's it. That's all the hedgehog needs. As long as there is someone to keep him on track, which is actually how he met Ari.
Also, I finalized the name - the prison comics and everything involving Ari and these charcters will be now called "Opposite Poles AU" and I will keep expanding it!
