More World-Building Wednesday posting, this time featuring a ventral view of a Lightbearer Dominion Battle Cruiser.
Find Me On:
FurAffinity ◈ Weasyl
The primary capital ship of the Lightbearer Dominion's interstellar fleet, these battle cruisers are smaller but more heavily armed and offense-oriented than the typical Starfarer Wayfinder-Class Interstellar Cruiser. Featuring 20 heavy plasma cannons (ten on the ventral surface and 10 more on the dorsal surface), numerous point-defense autocannons (most of which remain hidden under armored hatches until needed), missile launchers, robust shield generators, tough armor and a modest yet adequate hangar bay, these mid-sized cruisers are built to be capable of filling just about any role, ranging from ship-to-ship combat, convoy escort, troop transport, orbital assaults, and planetary defense.
Typically, at least one of these battle cruisers can be found in orbit around a planet in any star system the Dominion has strategic interest in, whether the system is inhabited or not, although those stationed near backwater worlds and those less strategically relevant tend to be older and less well-maintained, and fewer in number than the defensive fleets stationed around high-value worlds like Silouanos, Keone, or Inansianna.
Everyone's favorite pudgy space handyman Domec calls one of these cruisers home as well, stationed above a backwater colony world whose primary relevance is mining and manufacturing, on the outskirts of Dominion space.

Haven't decided just how big these things would be yet, but they're built for both offense and defense, with good speed and maneuverability as well. Definitely not the biggest or most powerful cruisers in the Dominion's fleet, but pretty capable all the same.
I don't think it would be a good idea for pirates or bandits or raiders to make a move on a ship like this!
