It was a chilly autumn evening, the sky looked damp and it looked like it was going to start to rain at any moment. Lonely character rushed forward on a barely visible forest path in a attempt to reach her target before the rain would come and wash away the tracks making the chase hopeless. Something caught the attention of the elf and she kneeled down to investigate a trace of blood on the ground.
"Fresh, something has wounded it..."
Náessë murmured, then standing up and continuing the chase, this time she was running because she wanted to catch the werewolf before anyone else. Something in it´s eyes had evoked his sympathy and she wanted to find out what, was this individual still sane and not in the grasp of bloodlust like she had thought when she arrived to the scene? Slowly the footprints started to change, they were closer to eachother and deeper than earlier, apparently the beast started to get fatigued and had chanced it´s rhythm from running to slow walking to preserve it´s strenght. The elf slowed down and pulled his short sword out of it´s scabbard to observe it´s blade. At first it looked like normal, but suddenly it bursted to silvery light reacting immeaditely to the werewolf presence when the beast jumped from the pile of rocks it was standing on only a moment ago. Náessë evaded by rolling backwards instinctively. When she raised her eyes, the werewolf was staring at her with it´s yellow eyes and growling.
"Jacob! You don´t want to do this"
she yelled, slightly surprised when the beast indeed reacted to it´s given name by flinching backwards in confusion.
Come Jacob, you can return to your home if you promise to stay in your room while transformed, you can still live with your, you don´t have to abandon them. They still love you, no matter what form you take"
elf said, now more calmly trying to convince that Jacob really could return to his home even though he was now a werewolf. The beast hesitated for a moment while it processed what Náessë had said, but then it let out a gloomy howl and ran away to the night. As if some greater power showed it´s compassion for Jacob, a freezing rain started to hammer the ground, making the further tracking impossible. She wiped her face that was wet from the rain, and maybe from few tears as well, and turned around to return to his home to tell his family what had happened. It wasn´t a pleasant trip, even though it was almost winter, the elf wore nothing else than her normal travelling clothes that consisted a long coat, a simple shirt and pants. The trip back to the Jacob's farm was a gloomy one, it saddened her to know that there was one more beast for her to hunt down before it could cause any more harm. When Náessë stepped out of the woods she could see the whole family waiting for on the terace of the main building. When they saw her return alone, they started to cry and Jacob´s mother fainted. It was hard enough to know his son was a werewolf, but it was nothing compared to the fact that he was either dead or killing others somewhere in the world. The elf stepped inside and the rest of the family followed her to the living room where they sat down on the couches. She made sure that everybody was here before she sighed heavily and started to speak.
"As you can see, I returned alone. I tried to convince Jacob that he could return home, but he... I don´t know what happened, he just howled and ran away. Because of the rain, I couldn´t keep on tracking him so I decided to returned here to tell you what happened. All I can do for now is offer my condolences and sympathy. I´m sorry..."
she said and bowed before turning around to leave the house. But before she could do that, Jacob´s mother said something
"Please, stop his suffering. I don´t want my little Jacob to suffer any longer, his life was already hard and this was the final nail in his coffin"
Náessë stood still for a moment, and then she simply nodded before walking away. For a moment she stood on the terace, looking up to the sky, but then she stepped out to the rain and headed to the dark night.
This is a short sample for a RPG forum I joined.
I´m planning to write more stories in the future, but we´ll see about that.
The character in this story is my newest RPG character, an elf named Náessë Garos. Her job is hunting down monsters that threaten her country´s citizen, in short, she´s a monster slayer.
