Summers at the Academy can become quite hot, and even the less-restrictive informal uniforms can become oppressively uncomfortable. The Rules make it emphatically clear that devotees are to be in full uniform at all times, and make no exception for weather.
But out in the woods, away from the dormitory and temple, and out of sight of the paths, with only the company of her dearest and most trusted friend Jev, Clover strips off her hot wool tights and cools her paws, unable to resist the temptation of a cool, clear creek. It won’t be long before Jev joins her. Later, their oaths demand that they will have to submit themselves to penance; but right now, all is right with the world and the simple pleasure of fresh, cold water flowing between the toes is worth the price.
