Ya know...somebody needs to make a movie like this.
Kind of like one of a billion zombie movies out there. Only, it's cute, cuddly and the total opposite of scary. (Well, except to the ones being surprisingly transformed.)
Now, what kind of plot should it have? A virus in the drinking water or air born? Naturally occurring, mad scientist or military/dictator weapon? What about a religious plot from left field? Go totally nuts and make it a sexually spread, genetic abnormality? Like some deeply wooded/ice artic/alien asteroid kind of gene. Speak of the 'save the Earth' if melting ice caps releases a germ that mutates intelligent beings into simpler animals. Don't do the stereotypical horror bit where they go mad with Human slaughter for food. Make the horror the fact that Humans are disappearing at alarming rates. A major city becomes underwhelmed with Humans and overwhelmed with zoo creatures...unexplained how they got there. That's bound to scare some far worse then some guy with a set of cat claws.
