Liz Bandicoot makes a triumphant return to Bandiboy Magazine, with a chic goth look and plenty of sassy confidence!
Liz won a poll this month on Patreon, beating out the other Crash Team Racing trophy girls to be the first character in the Crash franchise that I've drawn. The basis for this image comes from her epilogue in CTR: "Liz posed for Bandiboy Magazine, buying her dream Malibu mansion with the earnings." Additionally, the "front page" wording on this cover is a reference to her victory phrase in Nitro-Fueled, a remake of CTR (where she is now a racer): "Now I'll make every front page".
I've never done a faux magazine cover before, and it was rather fun putting a different set of graphic art skills to use, and cramming it full of Crash references. I also studied some Playboy covers and tried to capture their essence and their formatting. Generally, they have the pin-up lady against a flat-colored background, some captions with 2-3 colors used for the text, and have mentions of "20 Questions", an "interview", and a "pictorial". The "trashiness" levels in the front page captions tended to be lower than expected, with sex talk/innuendos only present in maybe one or two of them. Amusingly, the typical Cosmopolitan cover tends to be far trashier with its captions.
I wouldn't be opposed to doing more stuff like this (pinups of Crash gals and/or faux magazine covers) but I'll see how well this is received first.
