Taken right from the dialog of "The great white box of Bardfield," This is how I saw the scene in my head.

Pfhahaha! That's friggin' genius! Can't believe I've only just discovered it!
It's funny, I'd been turning over in my mind what the Goons would look like as anthros (I named my character after Neddie Seagoon as well; the name's from an older character I had). Your version of Grytpype-Thynne is bang on the money!

Strange... Several artists I've known who are "Goon-atics" and have tried to translate their favorite characters into 'morph animal forms have depicted Grytype-Thynne as a rather "Cultured" fox who looks like he's spent the night rummaging through someone's dustbins. Perhaps it's the sound quality of the character's voice?
And here I've been spelling the poor fellow's name wrong all these years! I spelled it "Thynne," then said it aloud, and I was instantly cured of Monkeys on the knees!

I think it's all to do with the stereotype of foxes being sly and crafty, which is very much how I'd describe Grytpype's character. I can't picture the voice coming out of any other animal's mouth, to be honest.
With the other characters it's a bit tougher, especially with Seagoon himself. I always thought the idea of Eccles and Bluebottle being a Great Dane and chipmunk respecively was amusing though.

I started drawing Neddie Seagoon as a Beluga Whale in order to go with the "Sea" reference in his name. Not only that, but the idea of a "Landlocked" whale is kind of funny in it's own way. Eccles I draw as a stylized polar bear, usually wearing bib overalls and a big pair of boots. (That's where "Leetle Jeem," a big eyed, dwarf lemur hangs out.) Bluebottle I used to draw as a "Finchley" Wolf-taur Scout, mainly because I couldn't figure what the heck he was anyway, and the "Gag" would be that almost everyone in the strip wouldn't notice that he was a centauroid wolf cub. In his more "Current" role in my "Steamfox" comics, he's still a half grown East Finchley Wolf cub, but now a two legged type, and operates the main lift aboard the S.S. Athena.
