I found a synth sitting abandoned in a pit on the far side of Greed. She was of quite odd make; fully driven by internal combustion, diesel fuel. In fact, not a single component on her was electrical. Body, driven by a sparkless diesel engine, chains and driveshafts running all through her, down to her fingers and the tip of her tail. Her mind, too; mechanical. Thousands of thousands of paper-thin gears form a clockwork inside her, a completely mechanical computer, mechanisms to adjust itself to new stimuli; she could learn. Her eyes, intricate ruby gemstones that shine like a fire, the most sensitive of mechanisms reacting to length contraction of the conelike nano-spikes all over the back of it, inputting the reflection of red and infrared light. In fact, she had even a miniscule pegboard situated in her head, rising in the shape of the terrain she was looking at. Truly, a fascinating specimine.
