The armor and clothing is exactly what I saw it as. However, you are right, you should've done something with the feet. Pretty much any normal strike with a blade will be used with a widened stance, with one foot further forward. Also, hand is generally further back. But that's all combat oriented information.

Overall though, I am a happy jackal, even though I am angry jackal in picture.

Regarding what you're trying to convey, you might look up "line of motion" or "live of action". This is covered in Preston Blair's books on animation. There are a couple, old as the hills, but still relevant. You can probably still find copies in Michael's, Hobby Lobby, etc., or just try Google.

Look up Preston Blair. His books were a staple for young would-be animators of a Certain Era. Throw "preston blair animation" at Google for some links, including some useful guides in the images section.
