According to the story in Salon some years ago, the identity of the suit's wearer was secret and could be anyone between the the rank of petty officer to lieutenant commander. Sagamore T. Moose (aka Bully) was the official mascot of the USS Theodore Roosevelt CVN-71. His antlers are bobbed to permit his passage through causeways and hatches while aboard ship.
