My scout shoes (maryjanes) didn't stand a chance out here!

Shoes weren't the only ones that suffered. But there's one benefit to maryjanes, they're leather, and a good soaking and polish and they are good as new pretty much. I'm getting a cool pair of boots today that can handle this better then the uniform shoes I wore that day. I was totally unprepared which is not normal for me, it really was chilly out too.
They're these kind: http://www.walmart.com/ip/Women-s-M.....ndingMethod=rr
but mine are purple-ish no floral pattern, though there still is that black strap, which by the way, really doesn't do much of anything.
A few pairs of warm socks underneath to make them nice and tight, and a mini-bungie cord at the ankle and they're perfect for the low-lying muddy squish of the muddy beach.

Nice look, Too bad the mud scouts don't make any allowance for boots with their uniforms--I can draw those :)
A few weeks ago I bought something by Kenneth Cole called the 'Electric Rain'. It differs sharply from the norm in that one, it's strictly a guy's style, and two, even though it's rubber, it doesn't [i]look]/i] like a rubber boot (unlike the Polo Matteo). Even though they may never see any significant quantity of mud, at 12" they should be able to handle any slush puddles a NYC snowstorm can generate.

Heh, heh, and they're comfortable enough too. ;)
The Mud-Scouts and Swampfox scouts evolved on a similar path, Swampfox Scouts aren't just for the sinking scouts, but are more or a "Boys and Girls Club" of the scouting groups, all sexes and species are welcome. The uniforms are similar to the Mudscouts, with some variations, but by and large look the same. We specialize in community service, environmental education, and environmental exploration/mapping and study.
The Swampfox Scouts uniform for the ladies is generally a simple tan t-shirt or blouse, a brown pleated skirt, matching brown sash, tan knee socks, black patent mary-janes, and underneath it all a single piece yellow racerback swimsuit.
The boys uniform is mostly the same; Tan t-shirt, or dress shirt, Brown explorer shorts, a Brown vest with the merit badges upon it instead of the girls sash. Boys tan tube socks, and either sandals or boys dress shoes. For their unders, it consists of a simple yellow swim-brief shorts (Close fitting variety)
If out on patrol, they would each wear a matching back-pack and clipped to the back outside of the pack is a 'standard-issue' pair of muck boots (knee-high rubber boots usually in a brown color)
Captain Planet would love the Swampfox Scouts ;) "The Power is Yours!"

This was some nice stuff, though if ya tried to move any faster than a slow plod, you'd slip and slide like you were walking on butter or something. Just below the initial sediment layer was this super slick clay like muck which was fairly solid, not even the half inch heel of my shoes did anything for traction. Usually the heel digs in a little bit, and gives me 'some' traction not so on this occasion.
Google "footprints", and you'll get a TON of links on it. I've seen it pasted over so many beach photos in stores, I guess I figured you could hardly avoid running into it in some store or other. This picture of yours looks EXACTLY like the sort of picture they use. Except, well... it's mud.
Here's a page with some versions of the poem. The one on the right is what I've usually seen. I just thought a mud-based parody would go perfectly with this picture. I'm just not up to writing it, but maybe someone would...
