my mistake, it the paths tool it looks like a fountain pen. It's for getting good curves (great for GIMP/Photoshop/Illustrator/Fireworks beginners to make those curves )
you click somewhere then click somewhere else, hold and drag to create a curved path. then go to your 'layers' window and select "paths" then select the path you drew and click "paint along path" (it's by the little trash can on the bottom of that window) then set whatever settings you may want to change and click "stroke" it will make a stroke along the path you drew. also never use the pencil(except for the basis sketch before inking). it gives it that 'pixely' look use the paintbrush
did that help? I run the Graphic arts Club at my school but I only do oral lectures and not very good at teaching in text.
