Aluminum/anodized aluminum is easier for me to work in for jewelrey pieces, it's also lighter and nicer to wear than say steel, plus better colors. As for closing, the silver rings here are machine cut, not saw cut (old old batch I got when I was first starting) and no matter how well I close them they still look a tiny bit off because one side is crimped, this is mulled by saw cut, which leaves both sides fat and easily matches up/clean looking. As for really 'closing' them, welding is near impossible for me in the space I have to work in, also aluminum is horrible to try to weld let alone the toxic gas it let's off ( so I've heard). I have never had a piece come apart (besides the few rubber rings that have broken).
lol cool cool right now all i work with is galvanized steel and hand cut with wire cutters in a way to make them sheer cuts and not pinch cuts... they kinda have a bit of ware around the cut but they come together good... as for welding... i dont do it cause it ruins the quality of the ring and makes it weak... for the purpose of jewelry you got a good set up... i mostly prefer to make armor...
