The Team of the Highlands (Chapter 1: Ambush)
Let me ask you something. If there is anyone that truly connects to you in your chosen team of Pokémon, who would it be? Given that there are too many trainers to count and they all have different connections to whomever they befriend, there is no real right or wrong answer. But I’m here today to tell you a story about a small, but independent team of Pokémon known as the Team of the Highlands. Allow me to introduce you to each one of them.
Forrest is a young, but very selfless Serperior, always looking out for his fellow teammates, and also tending for the home that his team and their Professor, Professor Garnet lived in. He tends to stick out among other Serps, due to his choice of apparel, being a dark green bow tie and a leafy headpiece. He is the leader of the Highlands Team, and is always fighting for his fellow teammates, whom he loves to death. His four main moves consist of Growth, Coil, Leaf Blade, and Aerial Ace.
Second in command to Forrest is Sirena, an extremely kindhearted shiny Primarina, always looking after the team when Forrest is either a little down or just not around for the time being. Her orange eyes allow her to be distinguished from other Primarinas, if the shiny coloration isn’t enough. And of course, her lullabies are easily capable of lifting the rest of the team’s spirits, no matter how dire a situation may be. Her main moves of choice include Sparkling Aria, Hydro Pump, Moonblast, and Ice Beam
Right behind Sirena is Octana, a Cinderace, and yet another kind hearted member of the team. She’s a little hard to keep down, despite having a rough history throughout her life, which I may bring up later. Oddly enough, her eyes are two different colors, with one being blue and the other being orange. In addition to this, she also wears a bandana around her collar with a symbol of a glowing technological ball of sorts, though she can’t figure out exactly what it is or what it means. And on top of that, she’s noticeably bigger than average, but not by much. Her four main moves include Pyro Ball, Shadow Ball, Electro Ball, and Focus Blast.
An old friend of Forrest’s, Joker is a playful Zoroark who wears a fancy, and seemingly personalized top hat, as well as carrying a cane. He loves to play tricks on his fellow teammates, and they tend to enjoy them, despite the fact that only Forrest seems to know him well. He tends to be quite tricky, which is understandable, considering he is a Zoroark after all, but he also does show a more lighthearted side of him whenever he feels. His main moves of choice include Foul Play, Flamethrower, Revenge, and Grass Knot.
Perhaps the clumsiest member of the team, Cruze is a relatively doofy shiny Lapras who almost always has a smile on his face no matter what. It doesn’t even matter if he’s had a rough day, as seeing his friends can easily help him forget what happened, which could be a positive or negative thing. It really depends on what he’s been stressing about. He also tends to be again quite big for a Lapras, so he almost never needs to worry about not having enough room to carry his friends. His main four moves include Hydro Pump and Ice Beam just like Sirena, but also Psychic and Thunderbolt to surprise his foes.
Of course, every good team needs a feathery friend, and the Braviary known as Courage, another old friend to Forrest, is perfect for that role. Despite being small for a Braviary, he still is a very nimble flier and is incredibly fast, even due to his small size. Him being undersized is the only real distinction he has between other Braviary, but he still makes himself known whenever needed. His main moves of choice include Brave Bird, Zen Headbutt, Iron Head, and Rock Slide.
And lastly, Vyper, a shiny Salazzle with exceptionally glossy scales, in addition to being Octana’s closest friend, albeit slightly pessimistic at times. She also is a good friend to Sirena and of course the rest of the team, and is just as tricky and playful as Joker. She, like Octana and Cruze, is noticeably oversized, which she doesn’t seem to mind at all. Not really surprising there. And of course, her main moves of choice include Flamethrower, Sludge Bomb, Dragon Pulse, and even Leech Life.
Not only are all of them pretty much one large family living with the professor, but Garnet had access to a really nice laboratory, fit with chemistry and physics labs, in addition to a small observatory with a gigantic telescope. They lived with him and his Boltund, Sparky, whom they all cherished very much. However, not one of them could really rest due to a seriously nagging problem they had in their life. Team Charge.
Picture Team Rocket, Team Plasma, something like them, but they could only use pure electric type Pokémon. In addition, they also did some really shady experiments trying to find out how to make said Pokémon too strong to properly battle against, allowing them to effortlessly assert their dominance so no one could have a chance of resisting. And that’s why the Highlands Team was formed. Team Charge had caused a multitude of problems for both Sirena and Octana, in addition to threatening the safety of their own home, and Sparky. The small Boltund wasn’t easily capable of fending for himself, so Garnet took him under his wing. Team Charge being ever present and constantly trying to attack the lab put Sparky’s safety at immense risk.
Nevertheless, the Highlands Team managed well. They understood and could speak human language thanks to some sort of concoction brewed by Garnet, which made life at home much easier as they could communicate better. A typical day would consist of Sirena singing to help her ease her stress from her former trainer, sometimes joined by Forrest to create a beautiful duet. Octana would be running around playing with Sparky, Courage would be flying around, Joker and Cruze would just watch the play from a few feet away, and Vyper would be practicing playing the piano. Yeah, forgot to mention, Garnet actually taught Vyper how to play the piano, which sometimes allows her to join Forrest’s and Sirena’s duets.
This day which our story begins started just like any other day, but little did they know that they were about to have a monkey wrench thrown into their works by Team Charge, when around noon three grunts and their leader came barraging up the hillside path leading to Garnet’s lab.
Once they got up there, immediately without warning they sent out their Pokémon, which consisted of a Luxray, Zebstrika, Eelektross, and Ampharos. Sirena, Cruze, and Courage immediately dropped down from the intense shocks coming from all of them, but Octana noticed something. All four of them seemed to have way too much electricity coming off of them, seemingly too much for their bodies to be able to process normally. In addition, they were huge! All four of them were at least twice as big as they would be in the wild, and their large size and overcharged state allowed them to easily overpower the entire team, badly injuring everyone in what seemed to be an overkill hit and run.
Octana immediately got up and ran inside to see the professor nearly passed out. “GARNET!” she screamed with panic in her voice. “ARE YOU OKAY?!”
Garnet could barely speak. “O…Octana?”
“Please! Please be okay!!”
“Octana, please relax. I will be fine. I was only hit once.”
Garnet struggled to get back to his feet, but eventually he managed.
“Wh-where’s Sparky?” Octana asked with severe worry in her voice.
Garnet almost had a heart attack at that mention. “Oh, shoot!” He frantically searched around the whole house, trying desperately to find his Boltund friend. Sadly, he was nowhere to be found. “No…” He collapsed to his knees, with tears in his eyes as Octana came again.
“They took him?” She asked.
“Yes…” The professor seemed like he had lost all hope.
Octana sat down next to him and was almost on the verge of tears herself. She loved Sparky, and hated the thought of all of the awful things Team Charge would do. Would they make Sparky too strong for him to sustain himself?
“No, I’m not giving up that easily,” she said, getting back on her feet. “I’m going with the rest of the team to get that Boltund back!” She looked more determined than ever, which even surprised Garnet.
She ran out of the room, and went to get Forrest. He was the only one who sustained the attack well, due to his resistance to electricity. While he may not have been capable of healing Sirena with his own support, he was still able to grab a max potion and use that to heal her and the rest of the team. Octana then told everyone what happened with Sparky, and they were all appalled.
“No! They can’t have!” exclaimed Vyper.
“What do they plan to do with him?!” asked Joker, panicking.
“I don’t know!” said Octana. “But what I do know is that we have to save him. If not, there’s no telling what may happen to him…”
“But how are we even going to get to their headquarters?” asked Cruze.
“Could it have to do with that electrified trail that those bigmons left behind?” asked Courage.
Everyone looked at the trail behind them. It did have an electrified path that seemed to be left behind after the attack. It seemed to lead far out of town and onto a bridge that seemed to be half submerged into the ocean, and into a large island a couple miles out from the shore.
“There it is!” Courage was scouting ahead and finally made it. Cruze couldn’t come safely due to the electric trail, so he had to take the long way around.
“Don’t worry Sparky…” said Forrest, encouragingly. “We’re coming for you…”
“Everything is going to be okay…” Sirena was trying to be optimistic, but she was also having pretty scarring flashbacks at the moment.
Sirena did have a trainer in the past, but an abusive one at that. He didn’t seem to care about the well being of his team, and as such would use the most hurtful methods to train. Sirena was unfortunate enough to be caught in the crossfire. Not only did her trainer say hurtful things to others, but when Team Charge came by, he abandoned his entire team to join them. His entire team except one. His Ampharos. Sirena recognized that Ampharos a little too well. That was the same Ampharos who she used to talk to when she needed it the most. And now he has turned against her.
“Are you okay, Sirena?” asked Forrest.
“No…” said Sirena glumly.
“Is there something wrong?”
“Let me just tell you what happened…”
Sirena told Forrest the whole story from start to finish. When she was done, Forrest was appalled, but understanding at the same time. “I’m…I’m sorry to hear that…” he said.
“It’s okay…” said Sirena.
“Uh, guys?” Cruze sounded worried.
“What’s going on?” asked Forrest.
“They were expecting us!”
Cruze had to make some tricky moves for him to be able to survive the onslaught of electric attacks thrown at him and his passengers. Eventually they made it into a safe zone, but when they got inside, they continued to be barraged by more overcharged Pokémon.
Once again, they seemed way too big, and their massive size came close to overpowering the whole team, but thanks to Forrest using growth to get stronger and protect his team, they were able to counterattack and turn the tables. The massive Serperior used growth again to be able to smash the enemy Pokémon, until they felt the whole place shake.
An explosion had happened, and it was quickly expanding to where they were. The shockwave emitted was immensely powerful, and launched everyone out of the building and sent flying for miles on end.
A couple hours later, Octana woke up in an unfamiliar place. She seemed to be on a mountain of some sorts, and all she could see was snow and ice…
To be continued…
So, first story written on FA, and tbh I had a lot of fun with it. Surprisingly it actually took a couple hours to write, and this is only the first chapter of three. So I may be spending another four hours on it…
