So while naga in my world are known for having two heads, they didn’t always. Hidden away in the northeast of India, in the Nagaland, Manipur, Assam, and Arunachal Pradesh states, are isolated tribes of Pracheen, or Ancient, Nagas. Of which Amaryllis is one of them. The Pracheen Naga are the descendants of the original naga that crash landed on Earth over 3000 years ago.
Originally slaves from a long defeated Star empire, the slave transport ship the Naga crash landed in the forests of Nagaland. The Naga killed their slavers, with the more aggressive and warriors among them going on to rage a war of conquest against the human tribes that inhabited the region. They were only stopped by their unfamiliarity with Earth magic, and by the local Kitsune “gods”, with help from the more peaceful and intellectual of their kind.
As punishment, the warriors mind were split in two, giving them two heads. Representing the good (the Ego) and evil (the Id) sides of one’s personality, the hope was to temper the Naga’s seemingly “overaggressive” nature. They were also banished from the region, being cast in small but sufficient numbers all over the globe, with the largest concentration ending up in Greece, where, with more Kitsune “god” magic intervention, some of them became the Hydra.
The Nagas who helped however, were allowed to keep their single head, joining the various local tribes, and learning the magic. And since then, they’ve kept relatively isolated from the outside world, preferring their mostly peaceful way of life to that of the rest of the human, later humanthro, population.
So this brings us to Amaryllis herself, the Arch Mage of a moderately powerful tribe, and a member of the Nagaland government. She prides herself in her magic skills, and her reputation as a skilled politician. She is a perfect example of what happens when a Naga, and people as a whole, put their strength into the right place.
