Sometimes I hate coming up with titles...
Anyway, this is another piece for that calendar project. I don't think I've ever tried drawing a snowy scene before, even though I tend to enjoy snow quite a bit.
So, I looked up a bunch of references of snowy landscapes and mountains, and tried to use what I learned to make some art.
I lightened up the dragon a little, too. Hopefully it looks like a very light blue or white dragon. White and black tend to be difficult for me, so this piece was a lot of fun in that respect, as well.
Comments and criticism welcome, like always. :D

Thank you!
They are time consuming, but I don't know if I would consider them difficult. I think it's generally rather relaxing to sit down and work on some art, and only a few pictures of mine feel difficult, but I know that when I run into one of those difficult pieces, it means that I'm pushing my limits a bit.
There's always more to learn.

I do like this picture (hope that doesn't make me a fave-whore! ^..^' ). I think the shading of the dragon is perhaps a bit flat and I miss the deep, dark night skies of some of your other pictures, but that's just my personal taste. And as they say, there's no accounting for personal taste. ^..^
great work, as always.

Great work! I really like how you convey emotion on dragon faces while still managing to make their scales look tough and armor-like. A really fun pose too.
If I had to find something to critique about it, I think it would be that the rider and saddle seem a bit more stylized than the dragon. I probably never would have noticed this, but at first glance I thought the rider had a squirrel tail! :D

I always like giving a touch of extra detail to dragon eyes.
The rider and saddle are a bit more stylized, mostly because that's how I'm more familiar drawing them, and partially because I thought showing the expression on a more realistically drawn human at that size would be significantly more difficult. That is a good point, though. Maybe I should practice a more realistic style on those sorts of things sometime soon...
Thank you for mentioning it.

The background, especially the mountains, turned out really good. It's the first time I see such a clouded mountain scenery combined with a clear nightly sky. I think it would look better with more mountain and less sky ;3 The dragon looks great so far, anatomy seems flawless to me. One small point of critique I have concerning the crossed laces at his claw. I assume you added them later to the design, because they look propped up and somehow mess with the claw (looks a bit like they go through the claw). My suggestion to avoid such difficulties would be to just put them a bit higher where they can't overlap with other parts of the dragon.
Thank you.
When I was looking for a few references, I found one where there were only a few clouds i the sky... I kind of liked the way the sky looked in that one, so I thought I would add in a few clouds, but leave the top part of the sky clear. Overall, I think that part of the background turned out really well. The background was my starting point, for this picture.
I think raising those mountains up would actually be rather tricky. It would give them a bit more room, but it would throw off the curve made by the ground in the foreground and the mountains in the background. I could see that making the composition a bit less focused... They are a nice detail, though.
Perhaps I'll start on a new picture with a bit more space dedicated to mountains. Now that I've done these, I should be able to do even better next time around, after all.
You did bring up quite a good point about those straps by the claw. I did add them in after many of the other parts of the picture. It was looking a bit empty in that area, so I wanted to add some decorations. I've uploaded an edit that moves those straps up a little. Thank you for pointing that out.

You're very welcome Truely raising the mountains could mess with the balance of back- and foreground I've thought that too.
You did such a great work on both, the foreground and the background, that they appear to be struggling for the viewers adoration,
which in my eyes keeps them from showing their full beauty. To be more specific I would adore seeing a pure landscape art with a
mountain scenery like this one so the viewers attention can completely focus on them and the hard work you put into it.
(Yes this is a furry art platform but some landscape art wouldn't do harm to it if you ask me) XD

It is still an art platform. I wouldn't feel bad about uploading random landscapes now and then.
It's been a while since I've tried making a pure landscape, so another one might be fun some time. I used to be terrible at backgrounds, but I learned how to make them after trying a few landscapes, a while back. Perhaps a few more might be a good way to practice. I have to try out that brush pack from AlectorFencer some time, too.

When you need some references for snowcovered mountains John Avon can supply you with all you need haha.
Here this one came to mind when I saw your picture here: http://www.johnavon.com/fantasy-art.....hotodisplay=17

....wow! That's hell of talent you have there! this looks like something that would catch my attention if it were on one of those extremely thick books , to the point of reading it fully! Amazing!
....would you have a related career like this by any chance requiring you art skills dor cover. posters, designs, ect? ...because it sure seems like it.
