Introducing my new, bee inspired kobold (Beebold!) character, Bumbles, taking their lil bee friends for a walk!
Which bee is your fave? Mine is the one licking the flower. :P
A bit of an experimental piece. :3

Yeah, the wasps here in europe can be pretty annoying and get all up in your face, and food XD Drive me nuts, but I also find them really cool looking insects. Honey bees and bumbles in particular, are pretty chill as far as my experience. Often have had to handle and rehabilitate them back to health so they could get back to their hives.
Have a lovely vid about a wingless bumble :3

Not seen anything like that before but indeed it is a beautiful, thing.
European wasps are big brown and kind of oafish, and they love boring into apples leaving nothing but an apple husk behind.
Swarming yellowjackets however, I will burn them in the the ground, no exceptions if in my lawn and or children present.

Honey bees, bumblebees, carpenter bees, members of Apidae in general are pretty relaxed as long as you're not threatening their nests. Carpenter bees in particular can't even do more than try to intimidate you away from the nest--the nest guards have no sting, so they can only buzz loudly and divebomb you. I have a nest near one of my house's doors and got that treatment for a while, 'til the guard bee figured out I wasn't a threat; it's been several years now since I got buzzed or bitchslapped by any of them. Away from the nest, I've come across some which were resting while foraging and was able to pet them.
tl;dr: Bees are cool.

Bees at this point are fine, Yellowjacket however are not, as part of the wasp family. Never tried to pet a carpenter bee, but i do not like them wood boring in the house rafters, etc. I would quite like to pet a bumble nee or the like though. or as the story above demonstrates.. thanks for the insight. :)
Yeah, wasps are something else. Supposedly as long as you can restrain yourself from flailing at them they're less likely to get aggressive. I've had a few yellowjackets get into the house and that advice seemed to bear out in those instances, though I'll admit I'm still not entirely comfortable around those or hornets. Mud daubers and the like I've never had an issue with though.
Animal cognition and behavior's always fascinated me, and invertebrates have challenged preconceptions in surprising ways.

Says nothing to when mowing over the yelowjacket nest and having not realized it and they go and sting you, or manage t fall in your shoe and sting you on or above the ankle. Honestly I have only ben stung twice by bald faced hornets, and majority of my getting stung, in the low 30s at this point are by in ground yellowjackets where I am working in a yard, near a stump, or cracks in concrete foundations. It gets annoying after awhile.
