Goodbye, my dear
shertu. I hope very much to see you again some day and tell you I always loved you, even when you were gone.
This is a piece that I had an image of in my mind that I wanted to commission. I wanted to be seeing off my treasured gryphon in a boat at sunset, akin to the way Boromir was farewelled at the end of The Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring.
The landscape of mangroves is reminiscent of home, as I'm from Brisbane and he was from Melbourne (Australia).
Thank you very much to
Toxi for this beautiful piece. She knew shertu too, so I'm very glad she could create this for me. I really wanted to have a sentiment of seeing his gryphon self off as my dragon self, and I'm so thankful to Toxi for taking this one on and truly doing her best.
I truly do believe I will see you again, shertu, and I hope to one day give you the hug I was planning to next time I saw you. You're always special to me.

I can't help but feel pain and sadness whenever I think of Shertu, even though it's been two and a half months since his passing. This is a very touching art and a very good sendoff to the poor gryphon.
I wish I could have said a proper goodbye to him. I wish I could have said some last words before he decided on his fate.

I think we'll be sad for a long time. However eventually, I hope we will be left with primarily the fond memories, rather than the sadness. This piece was one I wanted to help me deal with the grief healthily.
None of us got to say a proper goodbye. He didn't give anyone at all the chance to. There isn't anything anyone could have done, and that's the conclusion I've come to after thinking it through very thoroughly. Don't be hard on yourself about it.

Iv never actually chatted with shertu but iv been a long time fan and admirer of his bird character. I lost my brother to his decision earlier this year aswell, so I shed tears, and moorned the loss of shertu when I found out he had gone the way he did. My heart goes out to you and everyone that loved shertu. Stay strong and keep talking to him because he is watching from right over your shoulder, listening.
May his weary soul rest easy now

Okay this pic is actually making me cry. This is such a beautiful piece and a nice idea, with him resting in a boat that's setting of. I may not know Shertu personally, but I think about his passing from time to time and it still feels bizarre losing someone from the avian community and I wish he could come back. And I'm sorry your loss.
