I can't get over this feeling. Like a hollow feeling, like a loved one was just taken away from me. Honestly, major props to you for your ability to invoke these feelings with your artwork.
I always believed something is true artwork if it makes you feel, and this... this made me FEEL.

..and this is the thing I hate most when following an ongoing series of any kind; having to wait after a huge trauma moment like this instead of just binging onwards till things begin looking up again or get resolved. Definitely did not see that coming. Losing the tail, yeah, but this.. Definitely didn't expect this. Probably doesn't help I just ate as well..
The sad loss of a beloved family member. I can't do not insert the soundtrack from "The Spectrum Retreat" here to convey emotions:

You deserve a lot of credit for seeing through with a plot incident like this and not sugar coating it, but more than that I love the level of delivery you captured in this. There wasn't any 'obvious foreshadowing' about this possibly happening and it happened so suddenly that it just hits more believably. Shocking, yes, but in the right way.
I also like that for all the dangers Drift was learning, it remained real and not just a 'in the background for lore sake' kind of danger. That tends to happen too often in some stories so this is refreshing.
Very nice work here and definitely eager to see how this continues and how Drift now learns from this experience.

You know, I have been thinking.
For a fictional character who is not only not human, but is as far as it is possible from human for an organism to be and still be a mammal, this strip has produced surprising emotions in me. And it is just not me, as I can see from other comments.

You know the worst part of it all?
He felt it happening, he knew what was going to happen. . . and he knew the emotions that Drift was going to go through as with the last remaining strength of his will, he cried for the little yinglet he put his hopes and understanding into.
With great respect, but it's gotta be said, Fuck You Shard.

and to think he is still probably consious for 15-30 seconds or so ... when i first read this a day ago i became really sad ... good job on making characters the seem real and can be connected with even though they end up being minor roles. the other hunters are going to find one littlefoot a drift babbling to a slayed wilson...
I'm not crying, you're crying. ^_^;;
Just discovered this series today and started reading it, this one really hit me in the feels. Totally thought he was gonna get away with just losing a tail. Finished this series and came back to comment here because wow, I'm still tearing up and sniffling. Can't wait to see what happens to poor Drift next.
Now to start reading Chasing Bolide, apparently. ^_^
