This was an earlier trip to Fostoria, OH. I don't remember the exact date. I was watching a consist come out of the CSX yard there, and this was in the middle of it. This is a fallen flag from my state, and my favorite fallen flag. I was sure that this old short (ish) line had no pieces remaining. Needless to say, I was beyond thrilled to see it.

No they aren't. D&M got dissolved into the CSX, Central Michigan, and the Lake State Rail Company. Basically. Now, for a while Lake State owned Central Michigan, but they were recently acquired by RailAmerica. In turn, they became part of the Huron & Eastern. Either way, what was left of the Detroit & Mackinac is now mainly considered the Lake State Rail company. It's sad to say this, though. There use to be an old D&M round-house in East Tawas, Michigan. When the yard and property were sold by the city to make room for a Wal-Mart, the yard, buildings, and shops were demolished. The roundhouse and painting on it stayed. That is, until the day the city quietly picked to demolish it. The last remaining building of the D&M was unceremoniously demolished. Sad.
