This week's Thursday Prompt was 'searching'. As usual, I kept it somewhat tangential.
Heart of Cotton
by Winter
A tattered little teddy bear
lies all alone in an attic box.
“My boy is gone, he's here no more,"
he cries and rubs his eyes.
"He used to cuddle and hug me at night,
but now he's gone and I miss him so."
Somewhere else a grown-up man
goes by his daily life.
Without a thought for teddy bears
or cuddly hugs at night.
The boy he was, so long ago,
is never coming back.
So heart of cotton aches for love,
and button eyes weep silent tears.
Little arms reach out in search
of distant fading memories.
