I've been asked on more than a few occassions if I wouldn't mind posting in-progress scans of pieces as I work on them...
Thats no problem for me, so long as I remember to do so =). I can rarely finish a painting in one sitting, and so I can scan once or twice a day, and save those scans for posting as I work...
Anyways, this is a commission for Eric Goodwin, of his character Kendall the ringtail, shooting pool and flirting with a sexy lady in a billiards/sports bar type setting...
I did this sketch, with the help of some character reference pictures of the character, and also some pics I Googled of guys playing pool - to get an idea of how the cue is generally held, and what a pool table should look like. Everything is roughly sketched in regular mechanical pencil on cold press illustration board (this one is a Crescent 310 rag mat - I generally use Crescent 300 or 310, as they are the heavier ones my local store carries).
My next step is inks (see next submission in scraps)

Thanks =D.
I've played pool, but I'm terrible at it, and I'm certain I've never done it right ^.^
Research is something thats really good for an artist. I'm lucky to be living in the "google" age. It must have been very difficult for artists pre-internet to get good reference material

Oh man, yes. I remember reading a book on illustration that was published a little over 10 years ago. They talked about the importance of having an 'image file'. Every Illustrator worth his salt had a filing cabinet with magazine clippings, photographs, photocopies from books, etc.
I'm much happier to be able to open up my laptop and be able to find images via the internet.
