I was practicing doing rough portraits for an art class, and decided to do one in homage of Kim Jung Gi who suddenly passed away yesterday morning in Paris, at only 47 years old. He was at Charles de Gaulle airport, ready to board a flight to New York to attend an art convention.
I usually don't post my "serious" art with my "serious" style here, but decided to make an exception due to the circumstances.
If you're gonna read all of this, then bear with me for a moment. At my very humble level, I personally considered Kim Jung Gi to be maybe the greatest living artist of our time, and I can't state enough what a terrible loss his passing is to the art world. I considered him a master at his craft, the type of person you count on your fingers, the type of person that the world only gets every decade or so. He's leaving a vacuum that will unlikely be filled in my lifetime.
He wasn't only good at producing high quality drawings, but...Look, I'll keep it short. You've probably already seen this video, and this is how I discovered him: it speaks for itself, he reached that level where technique no longer matter and he could simply focus on having fun. No prep, no construction lines, no references, just a canvas and "into adventure we go": https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MGb.....Xfs&t=731s
And he wasn't afraid to do NSFW and fetish art either...https://www.animejpg.com/kim-jung-gi-art.shtml
He embraced it without a care in the world, either because he treated every drawing the same way (art is art), either because he had reached such a level of respect that he knew he could do anything he wished and get away with it, without suffering any professional repercussions...
Or simply because he didn't care what people thought: he simply lived his life to the fullest, in a very "Hakuna Matata" way, as if he was an artist-God that still acted like a kid: https://twitter.com/MAIScnhyo/statu.....92107006451712
And maybe this is why I'm posting this here, and not on my serious portfolio gallery, with my real name and all of that. Because I'm not like him, and I'm keeping everything separate between IRL-me and Weird-Fetish-Artist-Xss, certain that the day that the word will go out and most of "the people out there" will know about my fetish art corner, it will be the end of my art career. Maybe the end of any kind career for me...
But maybe one day I'll be able to be as relaxed and "don't stress over things" as him.
And finally, Kim Jung Gi was more than a fun artist, enjoying life with amazing skills. From what I'm hearing, he was one of the most comforting, nicest and encouraging persons in the world.
I can't be sure, as I never had the chance to meet him, but hearing what some say I think he was one of those who would tell you "you can do what I do. I can draw well because I spent all of my childhood drawing instead of listening to my teacher in class! It takes time and practice, but anyone can, and you can as well: don't get discouraged, and believe in yourself...".
We have our share of very toxic and problematic artists in the industry, some that shall not be name, maybe too many of them, and not enough like Kim Jung Gi.
I'll stop it here, I'm talking too much and I'm probably sounding ridiculous by now. So rest in peace master, and we'll keep on working and improving...But mostly, on having fun!
