Aisha min Iram is one of the breakout characters of the "Tails of Ys" mermaid spinoff to Kroashent, focusing on the Marie-Morgane of Ys-Beneath-the-Waves, a sunken city off the coast of Letha. A lot of people seemed to like Aisha, who has the most direct connection with the characters of the main series, with a professional and possibly romantic history with protagonist, Kathalia Bisclavret. I felt it was time to rework Aisha's simple design into something a little more detailed to show off her unique place in the setting and give her a bit more personality.

Aisha's design came about as a direct result of the first Mermay project, where I set out to adapt a character from each "Class" of TTRPG Dungeons and Dragons, with Aisha filling the role of the Paladin. I wanted to challenge myself to design a character who would be drawn from somewhere other than Western European/Christian tradition, and went for an Islamic/Saracen inspired design for her armor and appearance. Like Kathalia, she is a member of the Urzh Kroashent, the Knights of the Crossroads, a military order dedicated to protecting travelers and settlements on the turbulent borders of reality where the earthly realm of Bedouar and the magical dreamscape of Faerie collide.

The Urzh Kroashent's design is heavily inspired by the historical Knights Templar, but is intended to have symbolism different from that order in our own history. The Crossroad knight's insignia is an equal-armed cross, within a golden circle, indicating the protection of these crossings by the Order. Both Aisha and Kathalia belonged to the Red Command, assigned to the Southeast of the world on the Mor Kreizdouar, a large inland sea separating the continents of Kornôgel and Alkebulan, giving their emblem the distinctive red and white colouring. The world of Alvez does not have the same religious traditions of our world, and Aisha remains an adherant to the religious tradition of her homeland Ubar.
