I really wanted to add some more "meaning" (at least in canon of their stories) to this piece, other than „roar, dragon angy“ like before. Also the emotions in the old version, even if more readable, dont fit the characters at all, so that needed to change hehe
The characters depicted are Nikolai (the guy) and Ascii in her shapeshifter form.
In their story Niki is pretty self destructive in a lot of things he does and Ascii is trying her best to support him, but realises that the ‚I Can fix him trope‘ is called out for being toxic for a reason.
They’re a part of my personal writing and world building :)
The butterflies on this one are Tawny rajahs (charaxes bernadus hierax ), they’re known for mud puddling (gaining nutrients from fluids such as decaying fruit or carrion)

Though this artwork is much better rendered and polished, the colours and details etc are all far more vibrant and cleaned up far more than the previous rendition, I have to say I personally prefer the original if you're attempting to convey meaning. The original I can read emotions from both characters, and figure out a dynamic between them from that. This one is very.. clean, and neutral. There's no emotions that I can really get from it, as beautiful as it is and even if more symbolism is included through the butterflies etc I wouldn't know what relationship these two characters have between one another at a glance. It has more of a stoic frozen pose as if they had to stand still for hours for the painter to finish - which, if that's what you were aiming for, then it depicts it well. It is a more gentle peaceful grace, rather than a snapshot of the more messy rough personalities the characters hold.
I definitely agree with you! The original shows much clearer emotions, the only problem is they dont fit the characters at all hahaha.

Can't agree, the colors are much prettier in the new one, the composition is better (the palette is gorgeous), the anatomy is better, it has chemistry between characters.
I love redraws and find them very inspiring.

Wonderful work, I am reminded of nostalgic fantasy worlds, dreamy landscapes, soft light, even the brush texture is reminiscent of that. It's a pleasure to watch how you work warm and cold tones in most pictures. The fur depiction is very nice as well, this creatures fur reads almost like a sheeps wool on the neck. I was of course clicking on more stuff in your gallery and I Loved how you made the fur in "Mauerfüchse" piece, painting in various hues and hinting at the fur lenght and direction with more colours while keeping the illusion of black colour. It might not have been your intention, but in this composition, it looks like Ascii metaphorically has sun between her teeth, which I found interesting :)
This is absolutely beautiful, and knowing what the butterflies do lends heavily to the symbolism of thus work. That even though she is supporting him, the one sided nature of their relationship and his destructive tendencies are making her die inside. Just perfect.
Oh my, that is one astounding looking piece. Love how the dragon looks ( i won't deny that for a short moment it made me think of Saphira from Eragon movie :D ), but you drawing is definitely superior in my opinion! Fantastic job on this! I'm really looking forward for more drawing from your world building. I love original stories!
