Or perhaps they might ditch the part about the Toads being turned into blocks entirely? Because back then I think, the original story of Super Mario Bros. was much darker and serious than it seemed to be. I once watched a video on YouTube that mentioned the Super Mario Bros. series was once geared towards adults rather than everyone, including kids. I'm not entirely sure if that's entirely right though.
TBH I remember the super Mario Bros. movie with Bob Hoskins as mario, and John Leguizamo as luigi, to me they are the OG mario bros in terms of movies, so anything that out does that dumpster fire (I say that with affection btw) is good with me; I'm interested in seeing this new movie, but with movies being what they are these days, I don't have high hopes.
Its funny how its the dumpster fire we all still love for some reason, even if it is bad and trust me, its a BAD Mario movie, yet I enjoy watching it time after time on my DVD of it. Plus I am sure we all can have hopes for this movie since its from Illumination who did Minions Rise Of Groo, which didn't have any identity politics, woke shoved into our faces like the others, all they did was made a good movie for us to enjoy, so "mabey" this might be good.
It just doesn't work. The delivery is too generic.
Modern movie studios only care about start power and want the characters to sound just like the actors in real life. Voice actors don't, or aren't allowed to, "find a voice" anymore. Sometimes that's okay if the voice is really distinctive, but Chris Pratt has too much of an everyman's voice, and he isn't really dialing it in.
What bugs me more about the teaser, though, is the obscenely loud "epic" music, and the usual "awkward moment" scene. Stuff like that suggests that there's no substance in there and will kill my interest in a movie pretty quickly.
