Commission for
AgentXY14 (and story below by them-) for their friend Casey becoming the character they act, Zoe, from monster prom!
Casey lived what they could call a charmed life. It was a combination of several factors, really. Their career as a voice actor led to a number of roles as a number of characters, each one vastly different to the next. Their skateboarding skills were the talk of the city, and they were a legend amongst the Los Angeles skateparks.
There was also the fact that they had somehow befriended a chaos witch.
It was a sentence that Casey was still coming to terms with to this day, but it was true. The witch Vanessa had taken a shine to them, and had gifted them some minor shapeshifting abilities. Mostly for fun—a Scorbunny was the primary form, but Casey had also become clothes and even a car. It was all quite enjoyable, to be sure, and the experience of being something entirely inhuman was liberating.
Still, there were limits. Limits that would be rectified, they hoped.
One morning, Casey had stood in front of their bathroom mirror, looking over their face. They gave their chin a light rub, and had brushed their hand through thin air behind them. It was an imagination session, pretending they had flowing long hair, a more feminine appearance. There were times that they were wistful for their roles, and how they wished to get more into character for them.
“That can be arranged.”
Casey jumped, looking at the mirror again. There was just themselves, they saw. But when they felt a tap on the shoulder, and had jumped again, they turned around to see Vanessa herself, looking apologetic.
“Sorry for the scare, darling,” she said. “I just wanted to be playful, is all.”
“Oh, it’s just you,” Casey said, calming themselves down. They smiled lightly. “I was worried it was something scarier.”
“I can do scary too,” Vanessa reminded her friend. “But another time. How’s my favorite actress?”
Casey blushed lightly, amused at her comment. But they started to lower their head a little, saddened. Vanessa could sense this, and bent down to Casey’s level.
“Feeling like you’re not yourself?” she asked. “Wanting to be something else? I can relate, darling.”
“Vanessa, thank you for your shapeshifting powers,” Casey said. “But…It’s not me. It’s not permanently part of me.”
“Well, yes,” Vanessa nodded. “It gave you options to try out, is all.”
“If it’s not too much trouble…” Casey asked, uncertain. “Could one of those forms be my default?”
They didn’t expect much of it, least of all because they were asking for favors from a chaos entity. But they were surprised, pleasantly so, when Vanessa started clapping lightly.
“I think I can do that,” she said. “And I even know the best form ever for you to take. One that makes you even more powerful.”
Casey’s eyes widened. “Powerful?” they asked, surprised. “What do you mean?”
“Well, it’s certainly a bit more unique for my standards,” Vanessa admitted. “Not too often I make someone into my near-equal…”
“Hold on,” Casey had to raise their hands to pause the conversation. “Near-equal? To you? But you’re a witch, Vanessa.”
“Technically an eldritch witch, darling,” Vanessa teased. “So basically I’d essentially make you into an ageless entity beyond all of space-time. And also said entity would be incredibly cute.”
By now, Casey has taken upon Vanessa’s word choice and their own filmography carefully. It was painfully clear what she was getting at, as there was really only one character they had voiced that matched the witch’s description. Casey was also incredibly pleased with this.
“Please yes,” Casey pled, eyes eager. “Absolutely do that, and I’ll love you forever.”
“I was going to anyway, there’s no need to sell me on it,” Vanessa laughed.
The witch set her hand on Casey’s shoulder, gently. She examined their face intently, considering how to best go about her exercise. This wouldn’t be like turning someone into an animal. This was essentially turning Casey into the equivalent of a goddess, and thus would require plenty of energy to go about doing so. Still, it was worth it.
“If you’ll just hold still a bit longer…” she mused, placing her other hand against Casey’s chest. Her hand’s warmth could be felt through their shirt, and it only seemed to be getting warmer. No, more than that—the heat was permeating their very essence outright. It was like Vanessa’s magic was enveloping their heart, the ancient power wrapping around Casey’s entire being like a blanket.
Then they started to feel a light burning across their skin. Casey’s body tingled heavily, their flesh shifting outright. It was difficult to describe, and they struggled to comprehend it themselves. All they could tell was that their skin was turning purple, and that it was gaining a new texture as evident when they touched it.
Then they started to feel a strange sensation on their eyes, like a burning tingling. Casey was forced to blink, rapidly, anything to get rid of the stinging. Open and close, open and close…until eventually, all Casey could see was darkness.
“Huh?” they asked, startled. They tried reaching for their face, feeling for their eyes in case something covered them—or worse. But instead, Vanessa merely rested a hand on Casey’s outreached palm.
“It’s okay,” she reassured them. “It’s okay. Just give it a few moments.”
“But…my eyes…” Casey said, still worried.
“It’s for authenticity,” Vanessa explained. “Just hold still and I’ll make it work for you.”
By now it was evident that Casey had willingly offered blind trust—in this case quite literally. Not being able to see what was happening, or what Vanessa was doing, certainly raised their stress levels a bit. Yet they could feel themselves changing still, and they continued to feel warm. It was difficult, then, to feel outright panic just yet.
Fortunately Vanessa was true to her word, and Casey’s vision was returning. Though they were at first caught off-guard by where they were looking, and they felt disoriented by it. One eye was opening by their chest region, meaning they had to look up at their mirror to see their face. Another eye opened up nearer their forehead, and thus they had to look downwards. A third eye opened up on their leg…A third eye?
Now that was a new one, Casey thought, getting slightly dizzy. The vision of three different perspectives, one quite literally by their pant-leg. They were not naturally colored, either; they were green and glowing, a sign of their rapidly dwindling humanity. Where their eyes originally were, there was instead a pair of fake eyes that moved like real eyes, mostly for show.
The rest of Casey was changing rapidly now, as now their body was contorting into a proper female entity. Their hair was hardening and spreading outwards, growing into something far more alive. Tentacles, even: a mass of tentacles restyling themselves into a cute hair pattern, with one eye resting atop like an adornment. Their chin and face reshaped themselves, the creaking and shifting allowing Casey’s body to look more feminine in appearance.
Perhaps most drastic were the changes to Casey’s right arm. Their left was unchanged, remaining dexterous like a human’s. Their right, however, saw their fingers dwindling and fusing together into one writhing tendril. Still dexterous, but for the more Cthulhu-esque kind of girl they were becoming. Casey held their new limb, in awe and wonder. It felt smooth, partially slimy and sticky…and this delighted them very much.
The last to change were their clothes. Their muted colors had started to brighten up on their upper body, their grey t-shirt shifting into a far brighter yellow tint, even developing a hood and pockets; it was becoming a full hoodie, with the zipper forming down the center with an audible clicking noise. Their lower half, meanwhile, saw their blue jeans turning darker and shrinking in length, becoming shorts. Deliberate tears were formed, one on the left leg matching the right leg's previously created hole from Casey’s new eye. The legs were exposed now, showing more purple skin, though with additional flesh-like substance on the backs of their ankles.
Then the warmth subsided. Casey was finished.
They blinked from all three eyes at once, finally able to inspect themselves without distraction. They had turned towards the mirror, seeing themselves in full. Their purple body, their green eyes, their distinctively non-human form. One hand rested against the reflective glass, followed by their arm-tentacle, their suction cups lightly sticking to the surface.
It was awe-inspiring, truly.
Casey—no, “Casey” seemed off like this, they thought. “Zoe”. Yes, that felt better. “Zoe”. They, or she, thought it to herself again, smiling wide. It felt so right, so utterly perfect. SHE was perfect. Her eyes were growing wet, years forming from sheer unrestrained delight.
She heard a groan, and Zoe turned herself around. Vanessa was still there, clutching the wall, panting with exhaustion. The magic had taken a lot of work, no doubt, especially to craft a fellow eldritch entity. The poor witch had winded herself. But she still gave a small smile, in reassurance.
“You look wonderful, darling,” she said. “Exactly as I pictured you.”
Zoe had wasted no time in responding, diving at Vanessa and enveloping her in a firm and tight hug. “Ohmigosh, ohmigosh, ohmigosh!” she cheered happily. “Thank you so much! Cosmic being sisters!”
Vanessa, while caught off-guard by the hug, still gently patted the excitable new immortal being on the shoulder. “Cosmic being sisters,” she agreed happily. “Naturally you can take on your human shape if you need to go outside. And your other shapes. But you’re basically all-powerful now, so you don’t need me to do magic for you anymore.”
“I mean, yeah, I do feel pretty awesome,” Zoe agreed happily. There was still a pervasive sense of outright…It was difficult to describe exactly WHAT she had inside her, but there was a lot of it. She felt that she had enough energy to trigger an apocalypse or two, not that she would want to. “But I still wanna hang out with you too, bestie. Even if you’re not doing magic for me.”
Vanessa gave a nod. “Oh, I’ll not go anywhere,” she said. “In fact, now that we’ve given you an extensive makeover, why not we put it to good use?”
The witch had allowed herself to detach from Zoe’s suction cups, recovering herself from exhaustion. Then she put a fist in the air. “Abstract party at my place?”
Zoe giggled at the thought. “You know it!” she called out. “This’ll make great material for a fanfic, I bet.”
The witch and eldritch horror laughed together, as Vanessa had prepared a portal for them to reach her manor. Zoe, meanwhile, was all too excited to experience her new life as her true self. And why shouldn’t she? She did, after all, have a literal eternity to do so.
