yeah, space marines... can crush a human skull in one hand (s4, unlikely to happen often), spit/bleed acid (don't beleive all the fluff you read), and take on full squads of enemies(we all know thats a lie). thier too popular and overused.i ALWAYS pick the armies that are rarely on the feild.
as to the hobbie end, i didn't think i was good at painting until i tried it, some of my friends pay me to paint their stuff for em.

The fluff version of the Space Marines are the correct or Canon versions of them. The tabletop game had to tone them down a hundred fold just to make them playable.
If the space marines were statted correctly the army would consist of twenty men and a Rhino/Razorback and that's your 1500 points.
They are the single most powerfull individuals in the Imperium and can do everything in the fluff, it's just hard to represent that in tabletop.
In Inquisitor they got a lot closer to the "real" spacemarine, one man vs thrity and it's still a close fight. People complained that the SM was overpowered, the reply given by Black Library was "No it's just that they are down powered in 40K tabletop."

Like I've posted below, the fluff versions of the Adeptus Astartes are actually correct. They should be able to take a whole unit without breaking a sweat. Why? Well let's see;
They wear power armour which is like walking around inside a tank
Their bodies are sole built for the purpose of war
They spend every spare moment training to the very highest of their abilities
Their basic equipment, the Bolter is a miniature portable rocket launcher and their "knife" is over two foot long with a powered monomolecular vibro edge blade, these things will slice through Kevlar like it was butter.
They're strong enough to lift the back end of a Rhino and smarter than most normal generals. They can choose to use a different lung if they get wounded, they can filter out the sound of a pin drop in the cacophany of battle and smell a man at a hundred meters away (more if you're a space wolf).
This level of power couldn't be displayed in the Warhammer 40K battle game because otherwise the marines would never be used or used far too much, they had to be toned down since they are the single most popular army in the entire game system and are GWs single largest earner (next to paints which sell massively)

Technically any sharper knife will cut through Kevlar (it's only bullet proof)
Ofcourse, but then there's the Tau, which are so overpowered it's almost unfair to play them...there is no way you can get into close quarter fast enough for not having half your army busted before...
Not even deepstricking will help since you're not allowed to attack in the same turn anymore -.-

You've just been using the wrong force against them, I recently saw an Ork list that sits all over Tau like nobodies business, heck it sits over just about everyone.
I like Tau, used to play them but then I got tired of them and didn't want to upgrade to the new rules for them.
The older Stealth suits were better.
You want a broken army? Try Iron Warriors for Chaos Space marines;
You can have 3 units of Obliterators, a Basilisk and shed loads of heavy weapons. Any army that can shoot my 1500 points of tyranids down to the last man by turn 2 is broken.

XDDDD...Iron Warriors...so easy to hack, you just need to know how, and have enough firepower along...
So what List does this dude have...plus, Orks have the mass...I had an Ork player round me up by round three, even with lots of bolterboys, HBolters and RTlery Weapons they just wouldn't get away from my lines...

Well the ork list was as follows:
HQ:
Warboss- Mega Armour Big Gob, Cybork Body.
Nob Retinue- Mega Armoured
Elites:
3 Units of 20 Ard Boyz- Each unit had 3 Burnas and a Nob with Power Klaw
Troops:
2 Units of 30 Grotz
Fast Attack:
2 Wartraks with Red Paint job, grot riggers and Twin Rokkit launchers.
Heavy Support:
Battle Wagon with 2 twin linked Rokkit launchers and ZZZZap cannon (acted as transport for the Boss and Retinue)
One set of 3 Big Gunz, all Kannons with lots of extra crew.
That's pretty much all there was for 2000 points and less

3 units of Firewarriors in Devilfish (stupid fool charged them forwards so they could be in rapid fire range as early as possible)
2 Broadsides which he deployed on the very front line
Some crisis suits and a Hammerhead, dun know the rest but he put the majority of his firepower as far forwards as possible. Against orks that's just retarded strategy for Tau.

I have like, every codex ever put on paper in PDF format if you want me to send? Well, the only ones I don't have are the 4th edition Black Templar and 4th edition Eldar. Get ahold of me on AIM or YIM (allabaster1984 and aj_carroll84 respectively) if you want me to send you some. Just remember, Tau Fail at Life. Their "uber guns" do jack shit becase they can't aim for piss without markerlights. Just something else to remember is that later this year Orkz and Chaos are getting new codexes too
I got a buddy who plays BT. I once asked whether he thought bolters were better than Pulse Rifles and he asked "Bolter? Whats that?" cause the only bolters in his armies are part of combiweapons. everyone else is boltpistol/close combat of some sort. He also fields two Vindies because of the lack of other heavy support options. He commented that he keeps them moving side and side, with a techmarine in between for fixing. In his words "I basically declare that the 24 inches in front of them now belongs to the Emperor"
I've been wanting a Dark Eldar army but I want to see them re-released first though from what I've heard, waiting for Dark Eldar to get anything like an update is "searching for the gold at the end of the Rainbow" by the GW staff ;o;
I just feel that the Dark Eldar have some of the richest characters and backgrounds, Urien Rakarth is just awesome.
