Flamedramon is made with minky and mochi minky. They lay about 28 inches from the front tips of the claws, to the back claws; about 25 inches from the base of the hands to the base of the feet. The face and detailing on the armor and bands are machine embroidered and appliqued. The joints of the limbs are lightly stuffed for floppiness! The armor is lined with soft foam to help keep the shape, but to help keeps its squishiness.
PHEW! I was anticipating taking a little longer making this sweetheart, but I ended up staying pretty on schedule!
Starting off, patterning wasn’t too terrible, the base pattern is similar to the pattern used for Emdramon and Guilmon. The head pattern went through quite a bit of editing, but still a breeze. ^u ^ I did start patterning the armor for the body, but at this point, the helmet and shirt were saved for last.
Embroidery took… a while, but on the bright side, I was able to start tracing, cutting and sewing some of the parts for the base body. I was SUPER lucky to have just enough fabric for the base body and the red used. I was left with just scraps of fabric after they were completed. ^^;
After the embroidery for the base body was done, there was plenty of sewing to work on. One thing that needed editing was the front claws. I’m unsure if it was an error on my part, especially since the prototype made looked almost spot on to what I wanted. This will be something I’ll be working on editing in the future if (or when) I remake another! I did end up changing the claw design as well, the flat claws didn’t look to great.
Moving much more forward, after hand sewing the armor– The helmet was… interesting to make. The helmet went through quite a bit of revisions after assembling. I’m happy with how it came out, but I think there is definitely room for improvement!
backpeddling a tiny bit, so the armor is lined with foam, because I didn’t want any pokey bits on final plush. Flamedramon is definitely soft and cuddly, with the slight downside of having to readjust the armor since it will looked a bit bunched up. I honestly don’t know if it would be something i would change, unless it was more.. accurate to reference plush. THOUGH, I would like to look into soft interfacing to helps keep the shape a little better. :)
