Back in the day, I used to have a comic called Misadventures etc., which at the moment is on a bit of a hiatus. Well the four characters from that strip were Jiko, Jen, Ajin, and Aaron. Their adventures were usually related to video games and random anime. So I often do random video game related stuff with them, like this for example.
In the past I'd seen people draw character select screens with their characters inserted. Well I took it just a step further and decided I'd build an actual select screen, complete with interactivity and original art. So I tricked a friend of mine into helping me out. I do the art, he does the programming. This is what we came up with.
The art is a little outdated and so are some of the sprites. I'm always thinking "I could do it better" so I'll probably go back and make a version 2 in the near future. The trick is being patient enough to work on the sprites, which take up all the time of this project (for me anyway). I was actually trying to recruit artists at DA to add some characters, since there's only four, but the only person that completed a sprite was Vaporotem (the little Hell sprite on her DA gallery was built for this). I don't blame them...
Trivia: The guy that programmed this is the same guy that created the 8-bit D&D flash from a while back.
PS: You don't use the mouse in this, but you will need to click on the flash before the keys work.
