I can hardly believe the end of 2010 is approaching!
I know it's a little early for this, but most of what I'm going to be making in the next 20 or so days will be comics- no paintings like these!
Last January I made a resolution to myself to try to finish one painting/image a week and to sketch/draw at least daily. I am proud to say that I have roughly met this resolution!
January: "Danger Zone" ; at this point I've just started to experiment with perspective, I'm still very rigid and mechanical.
Febuary: "Inking Sun" ; a redo of an older piece, actually. I'm starting to experiment with facial angles (and doing badly at it). Shading gets more intense and color-crazy.
March: "Marco Polo" ; a piece for my portfolio when applying for a dual degree in art! Still very rigid but I'm starting to get more expressive with the background. Different color palette experimenting.
April: Commission! Still pretty rigid. Derp. Getting more comfortable with anatomy.
May: Minipanel month! I have a tradition of not studying for finals and doing loads of unrelated crap instead (read: drawing), so I did a lot of minipanels in this month. Cell shading whoo!
June: Commission! Getting more comfortable with anatomy and getting more crazy with colors. Still fairly rigid but starting to get more expressive.
July: "Mid-flight" ; I think this was the first image where I really broke out of the rigidness I had kept and went to go more expressive. Working at keeping a piece more kept together.
August: Minipanel! ; School started and I discovered art school really does eat your entire life. Lots of class work done, not so much out of class work done.
September: 12yrs Concept art! More cell shading. Starting to work with more dynamic compositions. (Hey, I'm learning things!)
October: With these Wings Cover (commission)! Very busy with school this month, still playing with color. Some parts are expressive, some are more rigid.
November: Snake Charmer ; Really started to get a hang of more expressive and dynamic compositions, I feel! Toned down the color-crazy shading a bit.
December: I think this was the first image that was really pulled together well in the sense of composition and a good balance of expressiveness and structural.
In Summary: I think I've improved quite a bit, but I still have a long ways to go. here's to 2011!
