SADRAC STORIES: The Three Mu-Onna
Three mu-onna residing in Aodamo's yokai fief.
In Japanese mythology there is a type of faceless ghost called mu-onna ("Nothing Woman" or "Un-mother") which had previously been mothers who had lost their children to war, famine, or (in the case of these three) something worse. By nature, mu-onna are protective of children, but can occasionally merge with or absorb them; other times they can farm the soul of children for information. Regardless, the child has to be asleep for a mu-onna to be able to do any of the aforementioned activities, and may sacrifice itself to protect it.
