"Poor Gnerstis. First your initiation goes sideways when a "symbolic" throat-cutting sends you to the hospital and leaves you nearly mute. The adept responsible is booted from the order, claims of possession notwithstanding, yet somehow you don't feel welcome there anymore, either. All on your own, with monomaniacal drive and at considerable expense, you begin to track down and decipher some of the most obscure ancient texts. But this path is not without its own pitfalls, and so here you are.
You've scrupulously prepared for this ascent. You've learned to pronounce the passwords in languages nobody on Earth speaks. You've cleansed your mind, body, and surroundings. You move with the subtlety of a dancer through each pose that brings your body's energies into resonance with the passage to the next higher plane. But that word...that one word that you glossed as "extremities"...dear Gnerstis, you forgot your head. You should have the appropriate stone around your neck, too. (It's too late now, of course, but here that would be lapis lazuli, or almost any blue stone in a pinch.)
You cannot progress. Should you turn back? Can you turn back? Or will some friendly entity find you in this infinite darkness, if you can only hold your form..."
