Deep in the woods... (mini story)
It was a cold, rainy night in the Kirin village.
The youngest and bravest member, known as Azzura Depths.
Hadn’t seen since her last expedition into the Everfree Forest. They had sent her to gather more resources, and they all saw her return in a deep panic, drop her bag of goods and run into her hut.
It had been a solid week since any of the Kirins had seen her leave her hut. Has something happened? Was she injured?
One Kirin, Autumn Blaze, decided to do something about it; she had been living around nature and the elements for ages before she helped the Kirins get their voices back.
Illuminating her horn, she made her way through the darkened, silent village. Slowly making her way toward Azzura’s hut.
The hut was the same as any other hut, except it was considerably bigger, as she was the same size as their leader. Due to a sudden growth spurt she had as a child.
But along with the rest of the Kirin tribe, Azzura had nothing but unending respect for their leader, and never challenged her for dominance.
Autumn made her way toward the hut and gently knocked on the ebony door.
But as her hoof made contact with the door, it slowly opened, with a creek.
With great hesitation, she opened the door further and made her way inside. The hut was separated into 3 sections, the living space, a small kitchen and the bedroom.
She made her way through each room slowly, calling out for Azzura.
“Azzura? Are you here? We haven't seen you in a week! Are you alright?”
Through the deafening silence, she heard a small groan come from the bedroom.
Making her way inside, her horn light lit up the room, showing Azzura with her back to Autumn.
“Azzura?”
Autumn called out with concern.Walking forward slowly and putting her hoof on Azzura’s shoulder.
The blue kirin turned around, and what Autumn saw made her recoil in fear.
Letting out a scream that woke up the village.
Azzura’s eye was missing, she was covered in fungus that was protruding from her skin.
Glowing mushrooms on her muzzle and leg. Shelf fungus on her legs, purple, suspended mushrooms hanging from her eye socket, and a few growing from her other remaining eye.
She had some normal brown mushrooms growing from her cheek, and some sprouting from her ear. And finally, one giant red mushroom coming out of her flank.
Blood was slowly dripping out of the Kirin’s skin splits, running down each mushroom and toward the floor.
Autumn gave a loud scream and backed away toward the door, rearing up on her back legs as she turned on her heel and ran away, out of the hut. Her screams woke up the village, including the leader.
All of which were beginning to gather around Azzura’s hut.
The blue kirin slowly stepped out into the moonlight, and the rest of the tribe had a mix of gasps, screams and cries. The leader stepped forward, looking very worried.
Before Azzura put her hoof to her mouth, giggling at everyone’s reaction, causing some confusion to spread throughout the group.
Before Azzura took off the eye-patch from her eye, with purple mushrooms attached to them.
She then took off the other mushrooms she had managed to stick to her fur, along with the fake blood, which was coconut water with red food dye in it.
“Wait… You’re fine?!”
Autumn spoke up, a mix of relief and anger in her voice.
Azzura spoke up again, with a soft giggle.
“Hehehehe, yes of course im ok, i’d never let myself get in that state. But the ponies from Ponyville told me about a special holiday that was going to happen on this night, called Nightmare Night. They told me that everypony in Ponyville dresses up in scary costumes for a night of spooks, all so they can have candy handed to them. So while on my trips, I had an idea for a costume and thought I'd try it out! And it seems like it worked!”
Azzura explained with a wide, excited smile. As she explained the purpose of the holiday, the Kirins began to slowly nod their head and understand. They never knew about the legend of Nightmare Moon, and that this was what the holiday was about.
But they all slowly began to breathe sighs of relief after realising that Azzura wasn't hurt, and that she was just taking part in a Pony tradition.
After that big, tribe-wide scare, every kirin in the tribe began making costumes of their own. Some of pony and kirin legends, and others being genuinely scary. Playing funny pranks on each other, and handing each other bags of candy for each scare they managed to score.
And sometimes, the Kirin tribe would join Ponyville in the festivities, and to learn more about this fun, scary holiday.
HAPPY EARLY HALLOWEEN!!! I love the month of October, because it means Autumn has finally begin, and the leaves are becoming beautiful colours. The pumpkins are coming back into season, the pumpkin spice is coming out of the cupboards, and everyone is breaking out the sweaters and cozy blankets. Ready for the colder weather.
