When i was getting the original version of this pic ready to post a couple days ago, i thought i'd do a bit of digital editing ans make her proportions more realistic... i might have over-did it as she looks a little bit short in this version ... anyway ....

This version of Sonja is 7 head lengths tall. People tend to vary between 6 1/2 and 7 1/2 head lengths tall. Exceptions being very short and very tall people.
A style i absolutely loath is the "superhero comics" style of drawing people 9 or 12 head lengths tall. *They do not look tall to me at all* - they look like they are average height, but have little tiny brainless heads. It's repulsive. Give me an average sized girl with a brain any time.

The original design for Sonja at Marvel was done by Barry Smith. She wore a chain-mail shirt and shorts and was an un-selfconscious beauty somewhat resembling Rita Hayworth. A design that could work with Robert E. Howard's original stories ( Marvel's Sonja is more based on REH's "Black Agnes" ). The scale mail armor that Marvel later gave her was based on having oval plates that didn't overlap, so that there was skin exposed under all that. Cuz teenage buyers. i went with that design just because it had become her official costume - how you could tell it was "Red Sonja" as opposed some medieval/road-warrior bad-ass in leather and practical armor.
...but ... yeah, i had a lot of fun with her plate armor ! It was fun graphic design !
( More Sonja pics to come this month ! )
